Critter Cradle Animal Sanctuary/Sherri's Kitty Rehab is a rehabilitation center where animals can come and get well. We rehabilitate injured, neglected and abandoned animals here in SW Missouri. We create a home environment so that the animals here can get one on one care for there individual needs, whether it be just lap time with lots of love, or medical treatment. The elderly animals will come here to live out the remainder of their lives, unless someone special comes along to give them a forever home. All the animals here get what they need when they need it, no exceptions. When an animal has been rehabilitated they will have all the opportunities to get a new forever home. At this time we have blind and disabled kitties here with us, we also give them all the opportunities at a wonderful home, just because they are blind or missing a limb does not mean they won't make a wonderful companion.
Who We Are
Hello, my name is Sherri Hall. I am a native of Seattle, Washington and am now living in Missouri. I have been married to Eddie since 1995. I have 3 children and one grandson with another grandchild due around the 1st of the year. Since as long as I can remember, I have taken in and rehabilitated felines when they are abused and neglected. My passion for helping God's creatures got a boost when I wed Eddie and moved on 5 mostly wooded acres North of Marshfield. I was able to help more kitties but still tried keeping my flock to a manageable 25-30 kitties. A couple of years ago I got acquainted with a local animal rescue that needed help with their cats so I offered to help out and very quickly found myself overloaded. The local rescue started referring all their feline calls to me and I now have around 200 feline angels in my care. With other area shelters filling up, I am even getting calls from Law Enforcement to aid in rescues of other abandoned & abused animals such as dogs, goats and rabbits which I am not equipped to handle but still I manage. I run my kitty rehab and pet rescue by myself and often spend 8-10 hours per day tending to their needs. God has sent me several angels to help with the bills that go along with doing such work for which I am eternally grateful. "Paying it forward" is not just a saying but my life's philosophy.
After Adoption... Congratulations on your new kitty
Bringing a new pet into your home is always exciting. It's the beginning of what we hope will be a long and joyous journey. However, you should keep in mind that adding an addition to your family is going to take some getting used to. As a responsible new owner, there are many things that can be done on your part to ensure that this initial transition period goes smoothly.
Don't rush your new pet. Let him/her get accustomed to the new surroundings. If your new pet is a cat, he/she may hide behind furniture or under a bed at first. Don't be alarmed. This is not unusual. It is the cat's way to find a safe, secure haven when he/she is scared. Don't rush the animal or worry that he/she will not come out to eat or use the litter box. The cat will come out when it is ready, usually when you least expect it.
Let the cat become familar with there new environment. With a new cat, show him/her where food and water will be kept. Take the cat to the litter box and place him/her gently into it. Usually all it takes is one or two forced visits to the litter box before your cat will go to it on its own.
Try to keep noise and activity levels lower than usual for the first day or two. Supervise all interactions with children and other pets. Because of the independent nature of the feline species, your cat will come out to meet new people when he/she decides to do it - and usually will find a warm spot right on the lap of the one non-cat person in the room! To avoid adding stress to the situation, it is better to place your cat in a closed room until company leaves.
Above all being patient works wonders, talk to your kitty, they listen. Be calm and sensitive to there feelings. After all many of these kitties have not had a good life and they do not know what to expect. Most have come from an abusive situation and need your patience and understanding for them to settle in and know that they are in safe hands.
