Who We Are

myspace icons myspace icons We are a group of people who are willing to go to the ends of the earth for any Bulldog and Mastiff in need. These dogs are the most hideously abused of all dogs. When they DO find shelter from their abusers they are more often than not killed because of misunderstandings of the breeds. These misunderstands keep these dogs from finding good homes even if they are not killed because of breed ban legislation. Thankfully once these dogs find us, they are very wanted and we usually have a flood of interest in them at once. But remember, most adopters want the young healthy dogs. We still support and treat many troubled or sick dogs for their lifetime. Thus the reason for our motto "...until the last breath". And our motto carries on over to your adopted pet too. Our responsibility does not end the moment the headlights leave the drive. Any time one of our adopted dogs is in trouble, we are there, until their very last breath also.

Every time we see an animal go to a new home, we get excited because we know they will have a great life with their new family! We have a lot of fun doing what we do, and we love to see the funny things our animals do every day. It's never a dull moment around A Safe Hand rescue when the animals are having fun!

You may see a lot of changes in our programs and the number of animals being helped by Mama Dori's Jungle... now A Safe Hand. The first big change is our name. We are now A Safe Hand with the motto "...until the last breath". Please bear with us while we are restructuring our services to include even more needy dogs in even riskier situations and locations.

Because of these challenging economic times, there are shelters and rescues everywhere in need right now. There are so many homeless animals and not enough homes. Please do what you can wherever you are. Please offer to be a foster home to alleviate the space problems of every facility. If you cannot foster, please consider donating to the needs of animals in rescue facilities. When you donate rescues and shelters are able to help MORE animals in need.

We have a web-site that lists our immediate needs. The web address is http://mamadori.tripod.com.

Our Featured Pet...TIGGER BOO! Adoption donation of $300. That includes microchip, worming, altering, and vaccines as well as our lifetime guarantees. Tigger is heartworm negative.

"I WANT A HOME WITHOUT SMALL CHILDREN."<"br>
Tigger-Boo is a pure bred Bulldog weighing in at 140#. He was born April 19,2005 He is of Johnson/Scott bloodlines. No papers are allowed to go with any dog. He is as healthy and as big as a horse! He put a lot of weight on after he came to rescue because he was emaciated when he came in. And he is not overweight; he is just that large!

He loves cars, baths, and taking medicine from a syringe! Isn't that funny? So no worries if he ever gets sick. His problem is he thinks he is still a little puppy. Sometimes he is like a bull in a china shop and doesn't know it. He gives so much love. Tigger needs someone who will commit enough time and love to take him to obedience classes. He has just never been taught to be an adult dog.

He can be a chewer, but there is an easy fix for that. When a dog wants to chew and they don't know what to chew on, just replace anything they try to chew with something they CAN chew. There is no confrontation or discipline involved. Dogs WANT to know what is right. By using replacement, you are showing them what they CAN have instead of what they can't. Just remember to never give them something to chew on that resembles something you don't want them to chew on ie...an unwanted shoe.

He is happier with adults. He was horribly abused by a breeder's child. He was burned as a puppy. And someone stomped on his back. Luckily he only got singed when the child burned him. But he is afraid of fire. Being stomped on caused some slight traumatic dysplasia. It is not as serious as it sounds. It is not genetic. Everything is staying in joint. He walks fine on his own and goes up and down the steps constantly, he loves stairs. He does not need medicine or therapy. He just needs to take some aspirin when the weather has a severe change. The worst of his pain was during recovery and is over now.

He loves to lay on his back in the sunshine. If he hears something approaching, he will lazily open one eye to assess any threats and go right back to basking in the sun.

Speaking of threats...he once saved a puppy that was having a pencil poked in it's ear. This was the same child that burned him. He took the puppy away and ran with it. We are so grateful to be able to talk this evil breeder out of so many of their dogs. Tigger also has two sisters that came to our rescue at different times. One of them gave birth to a litter of pups before she was supposed to get spayed the next day. She was so emaciated, no one could tell she was pregnant. His sisters are Rockeydoodle and Minnie. They are ready for adoption too. We are hoping their breeder doesn't get any more dogs!

UPDATE: This breeder we spoke of is going out of business! These hard economic times have made something good happen. Let's hope the rest of the dogs that are left go to rescue as well.

Tigger-Boo's eyes get gooey if the grass gets long, so you have to keep your yard mowed. He is currently in an area known for allergens. Maybe your town will be better for him.

He is good on a leash but goes with the power to pull a car. He needs a proper collar to be walked without the difficulty. Tigger is a bit timid of dogs bigger than himself. If he smells any other dog he marks.

Tigger is a great find! He just needs some patience and time. For the person with experience in bulldog breeds and the patience to correct him, he is the perfect find! Once he is trained better, he will be the perfect dog.

Tigger is in TX, but arrangements can be made to bring him to MO. or possibly to you.
