We do not have a permanent facility that you can visit or drop off animals. All animals are in private, foster homes in the community and shown by appointment only
To rehabilitate injured and abused animals and promote responsible pet ownership. To promote the placement of animals into loving, responsible, permanent homes. To aid in the prevention of abuse and cruelty to animals. To instill humane principles into society via special educational programs. To educate the public regarding the overpopulation of animals. To collaborate and incorporate the youth, elderly and all interested individuals into our programs, providing them positive, safe and loving interaction with our animals.
Who We Are
Happy Tails Animal Sanctuary (HTAS) is a private, non-profit, 501 (c)(3) animal welfare corporation founded by Susan Hatfield and Jim Johnson. After many years of working with animal shelters they saw a need for an alternative approach to euthanasia. Thus the idea was born for HTAS which is solely supported by donations, grants, bequests and contributions. We dedicate all our free time promoting and advancing our programs and placing our animals. HTAS was incorporated in the State of Missouri in 1998 and operates under a "no-kill" philosophy, utilizing foster homes until permanent placement can be achieved. HTAS IS SOLELY COMMITTED TO QUALITY PLACEMENTS NOT QUANTITY ADOPTIONS. HTAS accepts animals (primarily dogs and cats) on a space available basis. We offer safe refuge, extensive medical care and abundant amounts of love to every animal in our care. Each animal is given a comprehensive medical exam which includes all vaccinations, de-worming, feline leukemia test for cats, heartworm test for dogs, spay/neuter surgery, bordetella and microchipping. All prospective adoptive families must undergo a strict screening process as we want to ensure all our animals are placed in the best and most appropriate homes available. Each animal in our care is special to us and we know their individual traits. We make every effort to match the characteristics of pets with the wishes of the adoptive families.
