February 24, 2007 - We have just now received our 501.c.3 status. From now on any and all contributions are tax deductible. We would like to thank all of you for your support.
Who We Are
We are animal control for the City of Stover, Missouri. We pick and and hold stray animals within the City limits. They are held for five days for their owner to claim and are then put up for adoption. Pictures are posted at City Hall and in the newspaper.
We also help folks who can no longer keep their pet find new loving homes for them.
Adopting a friend
All animals are spayed or neutered before releasing to the adoptive family. The adoption fee of $85.00 for dogs and $45.00 for cats includes surgery, and routine shots. If the pet is under 6 months old you will be given a voucher toward the procedure. We require proof that you own your own home or a statement from your landlord that pets are allowed and a veterinary reference. Personal references and a home check may also be required.
Come Visit Us!
Please consider adopting a shelter animal as many pet store animals come from puppy mills. Maybe some day they will all be out of busienss if enough people only adopt shelter animals or go to reputable breeders. This will save many animals from suffering in the bad puppy mills.
We do not have regular business hours. Please contact us to make arrangements to visit our animals. If you can not keep the appointment please let us know. It is not fair to the pet for people not to let us know they have changed their mind. Since we have limited space to house the animals, some are placed in foster care until they find their permanent home. We will make every effort to accommodate your schedule to make it convenient to adopt from us. We will ship if necessary.
Some great news, we have just had a building donated to us. Our present thrift shop is 1100 sq ft and the new one will be 2300 sq ft. It will be situated on the west edge of Stover along highway 52 on 1 ac of land that was also donated. There will be a full walk out basement with lots of windows an a good exhaust system for light and fresh air. They will have outside runs eventually.
We can use donations of dog pens and chain link fencing 6 foot or over. This will take some time but worth waiting for.
Until we get to the new building the shelter hours are by appointment. We have several animals in foster so need advance notice to see them.
The new thrift shop is now open and doing well. We have the outside of the building nearly finished. With the cold weather we will now be concetrating on getting the lower area for the animals ready. They are all in nice warm places for now but can't wait to get the runs etc. finished.
