Spare Cat Rescue

WHO WE ARE:Spare Cat Rescue was founded in October 2004 by pet lovers wanting to help cats in our Local Shelter. We are a 501(c)(3) and forming our own corporation has enabled us to spend 100% of all donations to improve the lives of cats whether it be shelter cats, feral cats, or cats in danger of losing their homes.

WHAT WE DO: Most of our effort is focused on helping shelter cats find homes. Every Saturday A group of our members pick cats up from the local shelter and transport them to Joplin Petsmart for adoption. We have placed over 1000 shelter cats in homes since our founding. We sponsor many "Last Chance" shelter cats by paying all or a portion of their adoption fees. We assist cats in danger of losing their existing homes by helping cat owners with difficult situations and giving advice on cat-related problems from retraining litter box isues to how to find affordable care.

WE DO NOT TAKE CATS FROM INDIVIDUALS. Our goal is to keep cats already in homes, in that home.

We help local feral cats by assisting caregivers with advice on maintaining a feral colony and where to find financial donations to trap, spay/neuter and return the cats to their colonies.

Every Year we sponsor at least one spay and neuter assistance event that helps dozens of cat owners cover teh cost of altering their pets.

HOW YOU CAN HELP: Cash donations are always needed. All donations go toward shelter cat sponership, feral cat programs and spay/neuter assistance even. We have no building, so there are no utility bills. There are no paid employees- staffed by volunteers only. Your donations do not fund company picnics or Christmas parties.

VOLUNTEER: We always need help on Saturdays at Petsmart. We are there in four shifts starting at 10a.m. Even one shift a month would be Greatly Appreciated.

FOSTER A SHELTER CAT: Sometimes we can give shelter cats extra help by taking them into our own homes temporarily. We offer loving care, treatment and training to aid the cats in becoming a perfect cat for some family.
