If you would like to volunteer and help with the care of the homeless animals please call or come by the Clinton Animal Shelter , Clinton Animal Rescue Endeavor (C.A.R.E.) is operated mainly with volunteers, The Clinton Animal Shelter is located at 1307 North Washington Street, Clinton, Missouri 64735. CARE began organizing in October of 2007, to begin discussions about improving conditions at the animal shelter and possible control of shelter operations. The operation of the shelter with C.A.R.E. began December 4, 2007, with the cooperation of the City of Clinton until March 1st, 2008, when complete charge was given to the organization through a lease contract.
CARE began organizing with five priorities in mind to keep in focus. Those five priorities are 1) To preserve the life of as many companion animals as possible, 2) To provide temporary shelter for homeless companion animals, and place these animals in suitable permanent homes, 3) To reduce companion animal overpopulation, 4) To provide education and outreach activities regarding companion animal care to the community, 5) To generate the funds necessary to maintain a quality shelter facility and operation. The mission statement established is that "The mission of C.A.R.E. is to prevent abuse, promote adoption, and educate the public in the proper and ethical care and treatment of companion animals."
C.A.R.E. is trying to maintain the Clinton Animal Shelter as a low kill facility. What is a low kill animal shelter? A low kill facility tries not to put down animals and their euthanasia rate compared to the adoption rate is minimal, but there are circumstances that an animal may have to be euthanised. These circumstances include, : illness, extreme behavioral issues, and possibly in extreme cases OVERPOPULATION. The shelter is not an appropriate place for any animal; diseases run rampant, animals can become severly depressed from the stress just to name a few reasons. If you are a pet guardian please be responsible and humane with every decision of their safety and well being.ALWAYS spay and neuter. A FREE pet is not FREE.FREE pets require the same in it's lifetime as a pet that was not free.
How can you help to maintain the Clinton Animal Shelter as a low kill facility? Adopt your next pet from the shelter ,making adoption first option. Ask about being a volunteer or being a foster home for an animal to remove them from the shelter environment. Be responsible with your own pets: have them spay or neutered, have your pets properly tagged with your name and contact information, do not let your pet run loose, keep up-to-date on all the vaccinations, and if you are unable to keep your pet please find them an appropriate loving home.Always check with family members first before adopting to a stranger.
Adoption of all our pets include spay or neutered, rabies vaccination, along with a distemper/parvo combo and bordetella for dogs and FVRCP for cats, all dogs get micro-chipped. The cost of the adoption is generally $45 for your "average" housecat or $65 if the housecat is de-clawed or a high-profile breed, $75 for a “mix breed” dog, and $125 for a high-profile dog that is of a distinguishable breed or $125 for a puppy under 4 months of age. However, to help promote the adoptions of animals we occasionally have unannounced “specials” for discount prices, but “specials” still include everything that is provided by a regular adoption.Which is spay/neuter & current of vaccinations. Adopters must be 18 years of age.
The Clinton Animal Shelter is operated through the cooperation of volunteers and donations of supplies and money. Without the many volunteer hours given weekly the operation of the shelter would be impossible. Volunteers are needed from cuddling cats, walking the dogs, to answering the phones. If you are not able to volunteer in the shelter, but want to help the animals please consider being a temporary home for a shelter animal.. Send donations and your information about wanting to volunteer or foster to CARE at 1307 N. Washington, Clinton, Missouri 64735.
