Our Featured Pet... Macy!


Macy is a sweet lovebug of a girl, who yearns to be a lap dog. She is approximately 3 years of age, but she acts like a big puppy! Macy was found as a stray in rural KS and came to us thanks to an internet rescue friend, who knew she was an extra special girl! This poor baby was running along a busy highway, and it is very lucky that she wound up in a safe place!

Macy weighs around 70 lbs now at her adult size. While we don't know her "pedigree" by any means, but based on her coloring, head-shape and size, we "guess" that she has some sort of "hound" in her, and possibly a little St. Bernard! She has a soft coat of fur and a really long tail, that curls most of the time. Her personality is very loving with people and she likes to give kisses and be petted. Macy also has a small subborn "streak" though, as most "hounds" do, and she tends to do what she wants to do, before considering what YOU want her to do! A dog-experienced home will be best for Miss Macy! She is walking well on a leash for us, and seems to be completely housetrained. She is a smart cookie! Macy plays just fine with other dogs and would probably have a ball with a dog brother or sister to hang out with.

Macy is a real beauty, inside and out, who is looking for the right and perfect home to love her as she so deserves!

Who We Are

Happy Dogs Rescue is a small, all-volunteer group dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding new homes for unwanted dogs (of all breeds) in the Kansas City metro and NW MO. We are a licensed Rescue in the state of Missouri and we are a Missouri Nonprofit Corporation. We are very proud to announce that we are now considered a federal nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) Public Charity, as approved by the Internal Revenue Service. This means that all contributions to our rescue are fully deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Many of our dogs were found as strays or were simply dumped by their previous families. Others are owner turn-ins or were adopted out of local shelters if their time was up.

All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm-tested negative and given their first set of vaccinations when they join our rescue. We provide information and support before and after the adoption, to answer your questions on pet care, including veterinary needs, behavioral issues and obedience training.

The number and kind of dogs we rescue is based solely on our available foster home space and is on a case-by-case basis.

SORRY, we are unable to do long-distance adoptions for our dogs. We are only able to approve adoptions in the Kansas City "metro" area or the St. Joseph area of NW MO, because we require a home visit/fence check to be done by one of our volunteers. Thank you for understanding. PLEASE do not email us if you live (long distance) out of state or NOT in the KC "metro" area; we are not able to respond to such requests. Please instead use the fabulous Petfinder "search" feature to look for dogs or puppies closer to your area, or to find a shelter or rescue who IS able to do long-distance adoptions. We require a fully fenced yard for all adoptions, with no exceptions.

Adopting a friend

The greatest thing about adoption is that you save a life!
For every dog adopted from Happy Dogs Rescue, a space opens up for another homeless dog in need of a warm bed, square meals, vet care and a loving rescue friend.

All of our dogs are in foster care, as we do not have a shelter in one location. We hold adoption events where you may meet our dogs in person and complete an adoption application. Please see our calendar for upcoming events and email us if you would like to meet a particular dog. We do not do same-day adoptions, as we require a fence check and vet-reference check. We place our dogs with whom we feel will provide the best home and be the best match for each particular dog. Our adoption process is very thorough in an effort to ensure that our dogs are given a loving home for life! We reserve the right to refuse adoptions, and we require a fully fenced yard for all dogs (no exceptions).

Donate a BedWe have chosen Kuranda beds for our dogs in the boarding kennel because the beds are so wonderful. We still don't have enough for all of our dogs. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.

UPCOMING SUMMER ADOPTION EVENTS: Our next adoption event will be Saturday June 20th at the M&I Bank's PET DAY in Leawood, KS - 4501 W. 135th St., from 11am to 3pm. Then we'll be out again on Saturday, June 27th, at the wonderful Brookside Barkery & Bath in Olathe, 14040 West 119th St, from 12 noon to 4pm. July dates will be at PetCo in Lee's Summit - 1860 Chipman Road (in the back of the complex, next to Target) from 12 noon to 4pm on Sunday 7/12 and Sunday 7/26. Please stop by to meet some of our outstanding dogs!

** Not all of our dogs can attend each event, so please email us in advance to ask if a particular dog will be with us on that day. We look forward to more great events!
