Who We Are

Mission Statement --- To take in & foster, homeless, lost, & abandoned collies and provide a safe harbor until they are placed in loving permanent homes. We serve St. Louis, Southeast Missouri and the surrounding areas. We are NOT a shelter, we have our fosters in a home enviroment. We are licensed for rescue in the state of Missouri by the Department of Agriculture.

We rescue collies in loving memory of Nigel

You were our friend and confidante. We will never be the same without you.

Adopting a friend

One: The first step in adopting one of our furry friends is to fill out an application. That will assist us in understanding your lifestyle along with what you want in a collie. Some collies like to go jogging, others prefer to lay around the house. Filling out an application does NOT guarantee approval. It just starts the process.

If you're interested in adopting one of our collies, Click here to fill out an application.
Two: Phone interview. After your vet reference is checked, someone will call you to do a phone interview and discuss any questions we may have. This is also an opportunity for the applicants to ask questions about a particular dog or discuss general collie behavior and grooming.

Three: Home visit. We do a home visit to ensure that the info on the application is accurate and to offer tips on preparing for your new friend.

Four: Meet your new dog. We will set up a time for you to come and meet your new dog. If it is a match, we then sign a contract stating what is expected from the adopters and the rescue after the adoption is completed. If for any reason you can't keep your collie, it must be returned to WCR.

We also collect the adoption donation at that time. We accept cash or money order. The donation will be noted on your contract and that will serve as your reciept.

We do not discriminate against anyone for reasons of race, religion, politics, gender, or sexual orientation; but reserve the right to refuse adoptions based on the information we interpret from our interviews and the pet's needs or requirements. We try very hard to make every adoption a happy and satisfactory one!

We do have an adoption fee which you will find in our dogs' petfinder listings. Our pets are all spayed/neutered ($80-$130), UTD on shots(Rabies, Distemper) ($25.00), heartworm tested($20), if positive treated ($200-$500), on heartworm preventive ($7.00 monthly) and microchipped ($30.00), and frontlined ($7.00 monthly Mar thru Nov) prior to adoption. We also treat anything else neccesary to bring the dog's health up to par for adoption.

Please don't email to tell us the adoption fees are too high. We won't respond. We try to keep our adoption fees as reasonable as possible.

Please DON'T give an animal as a gift.

It is a very personal thing and a 15 year commitment. I wouldn't want someone picking my husband for me and a pet can even be more personal than that. If you want to give a pet as a gift, purchase a gift certificate from your local Humane Society. That way, if your loved one wants a pet, they can go and adopt one OR spend it at the gift shop instead.
