We're working on spreading the word about the importance of spay/neuter. We want to have nothing to do!!
What's goin' on?
We have changed our name but not our focus. We are still here for the animals even though Kathey Carr as moved on to pursue her dreams of Rving. We wish her the best of luck. With the new name comes some new faces and ideas. We are in the process of setting up a foster care network to enable us to take in emeregency placements. We still plan to do most of our rescue work by placing the critter in need from their current home to their new forever home, this is much less stressful for the critter in need. We are offering help to ALL critters in need and our new slogan is " From ants to zebras, we are here to help find new forever homes for them all "
Adopting from us
Our adoption policies are simple. You need to fill out a short form providing contact info, current pets, 2 personal references and a vet reference. You must also submit in writing a letter of approval from a landlord to have the pet you are interested in if you do not own your home.
Once that has been received and approved, there is a contract to sign saying you will provide proper housing, food and care for the pet and that if for ANY reason you can no longer keep the adopted pet it MUST be returned to us.
The adoption fee is a donation in the amount of your choosing, we do not have a set amount. However if the pet hasn't been altered there is a $25 fee that will be refunded when you show proof from a licensed vet that the spay/neuter has been completed. You must do this within 30 days of adoption.
Our work so far
We were able to help facilitate finding new families for nearly 190 dogs, puppies, cats, kittens, rabbits and one gerbil, a couple of snakes and lizards too, so far. 28 feral cats were trapped, spayed/neutered, immunized and returned to their colonies to live out happy, healthy, kitten free lives. Nearly 10,000 pounds of cat and dog food were distributed to families in need. I was proud to present 6 seminars about animal care to community organizations.
As always, we sincerely hope that the coming year will bring the local elected officials around to understand that animal care and control is an important part of any community.
URGENT TO RESIDENTS OF HARRISON COUNTY AND SURROUNDING AREA
There's been a rash of "dog stealing" going on in the area. Please make sure your dog is safe. Also, MANY "dumped" dogs are turning up in the rural areas around here, be sure your dog has a collar and tags (maybe even a microchip) so he doesn't get confused for an unwanted animal that was just left by a farm somewhere way out in the country!!!!
Remember that the Bethany City Dog Pound often has dogs available with nobody to "advertise" them, check with the City of Bethany at 660 425 3511 if you don't find a dog you are interested in here.
If you are interested in volunteering, becoming a foster home, donating supplies, being on our mailing list, or helping out in any way, let us know!
News
We are still struggling to try to convince folks to spay and neuter their critters!!! We spend all our own money to go and buy some toys and treats for the critters waiting for new homes! We also spend a lot of our own cash to help critters and their families in the Harrison County/Bethany area .... a bag of food to "tide over" till the next payday, a leash and collar so the kids can take "Fido" for a walk safely, antibiotics for the sick kitty of an elderly resident, whatever comes up that helps the furry/feathered/finned citizens of the area and the people they own!!!
Thanks SO much to all our volunteers for all your help!!!
We are very hopeful that 2007 will bring a lot of changes for the critters of the area. Of course, we said that last year too, and the year before!! Still getting resistance from the local officials, but nothing but great support and encouragement from the local citizens! Please encourage the Bethany City Government officials to work to help Bethany be a better place to live for ALL it's citizens....2 legged 4 legged, furry feathered or finned!!
Who We Are
We are a few dedicated volunteers who truly care about animals and are working hard to help the critters of NW Missouri and the surrounding areas. We are in the process of setting up a foster home network as there are very few county shelters in the area and those are small and unable to handle a lot of animals or the large variety of critters we hope to be able to help find new loving forever homes.
Come Visit Us!
Right now we just meet in volunteers homes, and do most of our work online or over the phone. If you are looking for a pet, or need help with an unwanted, stray or problem animal please contact us via email at nwmocritterconnection@yahoo.com
We hope to be able to build a TRUE animal shelter for Harrison County and the surrounding area in the near future.
