Who We Are

A non-profit 501C3, all volunteer group dedicated to helping homeless pets in the Greater Kansas City area. Our organization is the result of an alliance between several rescuers in the Kansas City region who share the same goal of ending animal suffering and homelessness.

T.A.R.A. is not a dog shelter. We do not have a facility but we are currently developing a network of foster homes.

In addition to rescuing pets from difficult situations, we offer courtesy listings in Pet Finder, facilitate low-cost spays and neuterings, work on transfers and transports with existing rescue groups, help individuals and organizations promote, screen and educate potential adopters, fund raise to help pets with special needs, offer guidance and information about animal rescue, organize events, etc.

It is the mission of The Animal Rescue Alliance to establish and maintain the ideals of Tara Nagel * with regards to the treatment of homeless and unwanted animals.

T.A.R.A. is an established 501C3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.

*Who is Tara?

Tara was an angel on earth who lost her life in a terrible car accident on November 2005. Before leaving us, Tara had found her vocation in working with companion animals and was an angel to the pets that were lucky enough to be under her care. Tara was such a kind, caring and compassionate person, that we are sure she has moved onto something bigger and better. She must have been called to comfort the astonish number of pets that die without a home. She is now our inspiration and motivation to help pets in need.

Adopting A Friend

The adoption fee for the pets rescued by T.A.R.A. is $65.00 to $75.00 for cats and $150.00 to $200.00 for dogs - We offer a two week trial in order to help new owners make the right decision. Our goal is to assure a good match, not force a pet on anyone.

ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES:
  • Spay or Neuter
  • 1st Round of Vaccinations
  • Heartworm check (On pets over 6m)
  • Rabies vac (On pets over 6m)
  • Worming

Since we are working with several rescue groups and individuals, adoption requirements and fees may vary. We are providing contact info for the pets we list and encourage anyone interested to contact the individual or organization responsible for the pet in question.

Listing A Pet With T.A.R.A.

T.A.R.A. will promote pets for adoption that are with other organizations or individuals. We don't have a facility to take pets in but we feature pets on-line , we organize adoption events, and can help you find affordable boarding for a pet you wish to help.

We require proof of spay/neut and vaccination (phone number to your vet) before listing any pet on-line.

We will assist you with screening and transport. In exchange, we ask for a $100.00 donation (adoption fee) once your pet is placed (if placed via TARA). This donation will allow us to rescue more animals and pay boarding until placed.
