Who We Are

Safehaven Animal Rescue was founded in October 1999. We help adopt animals from the Cameron area as well as animals in the surrounding counties where there are no shelters, and animals are left to fend for themselves. We also work closely with other rescue groups and larger shelters. Safehaven is just a few people trying to make a big difference in the treatment of animals.

Adopting a Friend

Cats/Kittens: $90 Includes: spay/neuter, all vaccinations, Feline Leukemia/FIV testing, and deworming. Dogs: $110 Includes: spay/neuter, all vaccinations, and deworming. Heartworm test if 6 months or older. Puppies: $90 Includes: spay/neuter, all vaccinations and deworming. To adopt we require that you have a veterinarian reference, a way to contain the animal outside of your home such as a roomy kennel or fenced yard (if you're adopting a dog), and a letter of permission from your land lord/lady if you rent your home. The adoption fee covers all medical expenses for the animal you are about to adopt and goes back into our fund to treat sick and injured animals that would normally not have a chance at survival. Safehaven often rescues animals from puppy mills and takes in many neglect cases every year. These animals may have a higher adoption fee as they have required more time and medical attention to make them available for adoption.

How to Help Out

Alleviate the financial stress associated with your pet?s unexpected medical expenses and generate funds for our shelter at the same time! Simply apply for a ShelterCare Pet Insurance Program by using the ShelterCare banner-link. Here?s how it works: ShelterCare Pet Insurance Programs cover you when your pet needs essential veterinary care from an illness or injury. Also, every time a completed application for a ShelterCare program is generated through our shelter?s website, we automatically receive a $25 donation to help cover common needs like blankets, litter and food. This donation is of no cost to you and provides us with essential funds. Make the right move and enroll today!

THANK YOU!!!

It's been twelve years since Safehaven Animal Rescue was just a thought. What an experience it has been and couldn't have happened without everyones support. I always said that Safehaven is a success when the City Shelter can run without Safehaven. It does and we are concentrating on a collaboration between the four counties and Cameron for a Shelter that will accomodate the animals in the counties. Stay tuned and see what develops. -Sue-
