RECENT NEWS AND INFORMATION

Our adoption fees cover normal pre-adoption vet care, but we rely on contributions for extraordinary vet care for injured and ill rescues. Right now, we need donations to pay medical bills to try to save the leg of a Beagle that was hit by a car before we rescued him. Please go to out special needs page for information about our most urgent rescues and how to contribute to Melvin's Fund.

We recently had to buy a new van to replace one that was wrecked. We have a critical need for money to help make our payments. PLEASE HELP!

We are also having trouble with our records computer crashing repeatedly. Please let us know if you could donate a usable computer to replace our old one.

Due to the large numbers of rescues, we are in need of more foster homes. If you can help, be it a trip to the vet, or caring for newly rescued animals for the week, please let us know. Right now, we desperately need volunteers for the cat center at the South City PetsMart at Chippewa and Kingshighway. Please call (314) 994-1033 if you can help!

The adoption fee is generally $125.00 for cats/kittens and $155.00 for adult dogs and $175.00 for puppies. The fee helps cover the cost of sterilization, vaccination, viral testing, worming, microchipping, and ongoing care.

Please contact us by email or phone if you want to see a particular animal or you are looking for a particular breed.

Who We Are . . .

In 1983, in St. Francois County, Missouri, volunteers set up a small organization to rescue injured wild animals and transport them to appropriate wildlife rescue groups. Volunteers also responded to calls on abandoned, ill, and injured companion animals in need of veterinary care and homes. Some twenty years after these modest beginnings, the organization expanded into St. Louis to increase its adoption efforts. As we are new to this area, our name is not as well known. It refers not only to the organization's original site, but also honors the first advocate of compassion to animals, St. Francis of Assisi.

By teaching and by example, St. Francis spread his message that all living things deserve respect and dignity because all spring from the same spark of creation. His compassion, advocacy and education on behalf of the animals who share our homes and our world are the goals of our organization and its members.

We need you to help us help them.

The St. Francois Society works closely with veterinarians and animal control officers to rescue the strays and pound inmates who will die from starvation, mistreatment, or euthanasia. We provide veterinary care and rehabilitation before attempting to place the animals in new homes. We attempt to ensure that both adopter and adoptee are suited for each other so that the home will be for the life of the animal companion. But we also provide follow up veterinary and animal behaviorist services when necessary after adoption to aid the process of adjustment for both adopter and adoptee. We not only want to reduce the numbers that die in the pounds and miserably as strays, we also want to provide our rescues with happy and comfortable lives in homes where they will be loved and valued.
We need new volunteers to help us with our mission "to make a difference, one life at a time." If you are interested in helping with foster care, socialization, weekend cleaning (2-3 hours), adoption events, fund raising and/or publicity, please get in touch with us.

Our foster homes work with the Farmington, Park Hills, Jefferson County, St. Louis, St. Louis County, Terre du Lac, Lake Timberline, and Hannibal pounds.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity (so all donations are tax-deductible). Because we are an all-volunteer charity, all donations go directly to helping animals.

Join us!
Our members come from all walks of life.
