As of November 1, 2005, all adopted animals are microchipped prior to leaving the shelter.
Who We Are
The Lee's Summit Animal Control's mission is to protect public health and property, while also improving the conditions for companion animals. Our goal is to assist both current animal owners and potential adopters in enjoying the pleasures and great rewards of responsible pet ownership.
Adopting a friend
The adoption process begins when an animal arrives at the shelter. Upon entering the shelter, each animal is given an ID number and assigned an adoption list. Each animal's adoption list may have up to three names on it. If the animal becomes available for adoption after the required holding period, the first person on the list is contacted. If they decline on adopting the animal, the second person is contacted and so on. It is not unusual for all three names on an animal's adoption list to fall through for various reasons. When this happens, the animal is then available "first come, first serve". Please contact the shelter for adoption fees, which include spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping. Many shelter animals attend adoption events at different locations away from the shelter. For a complete listing of adoption sites and times, please visit the Heart of America Humane Society website at www.heartofamericahs.org.
