Who We Are
The Southwest Missouri Humane Society was founded in 1956 by a group of concerned citizens to promote the care and welfare of animals in Southwest Missouri. Our mission is to aid in the alleviation of distress and suffering of animals and promote their humane treatment through protection, placement, education, and legislation. To achieve this mission, we operate a shelter for animals in need of care, provide an adoption program for lost/abandoned animals, provide a lost and found pet service, promote spaying/neutering of all animals, and conduct educational programs for children and adults. We are the largest animal shelter in Southwest Missouri, and we see about 15,000-18,000 animals pass through our doors annually.
We are a private, non-profit animal welfare organization that relies solely on donations, fundraisers, bequests, and adoption fees to support our programs.
Adopting A Friend
Dog/Puppy adoption fee: $75
Cat/Kitten adoption fee: $65
The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, first shots, and routine worming.
All animals must be spayed or neutered upon or after adoption in accordance with the Missouri State Laws.
The animals pictured on our pet list are available for adoption at our Northside Facility. If you are interested in an animal posted, please do not hesitate with inquiring about them. We have many more animals to choose from at our shelter , so please stop by and visit!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
We NEED you!!!
We need volunteers who have special talents, such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, landscapers.groomers....etc. We always need people to walk the dogs!!! If you are intrested in volunteering in any way please give Mandi a call at 417-833-2526 to schedule your volunteer orientation.

Adoption Hours:
Tuesday through Saturday 12:00 pm to 5:00pm
Incoming Animal Hours: Incoming animals are scheduled by appointments only, So if you have a animal you would like to bring in, please call in advance and set up a appointment.
