The animals pictured on our pet list are available for adoption. If you are interested in an animal posted, please do not hesitate to inquire about them. We have many more animals to choose from at our shelter than what is posted online , so please stop by and visit!
The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, microchip, first shots, a wellness exam by our vet, a heartworm test for dogs over 1 year, and a Feline Leukemia and FIV test for cats.
Many people are surprised to find that adopting a pet is a more involved process than they anticipated. At the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, our goal is to match potential adopters with a pet that is best suited to their home, interests and lifestyle. While we reserve the right to refuse an adoption, our staff makes every effort to work with potential adopters and help them find their perfect match here at our shelter. Please allow at least one hour for the adoption process.

The Humane Society of Southwest Missouri was founded in 1956 by a group of concerned citizens to promote the care and welfare of animals in Southwest Missouri. Our mission is to aid in the alleviation of distress and suffering of animals and promote their humane treatment through protection, placement, education, and legislation. To achieve this mission, we operate a shelter for animals in need of care, provide an adoption program for lost/abandoned animals, provide a lost and found pet service, promote spaying/neutering of all animals, and conduct educational programs for children and adults. We are the largest animal shelter in Southwest Missouri, and we see about 15,000-18,000 animals pass through our doors annually.
We are a private, non-profit animal welfare organization that relies solely on donations, fundraisers, bequests, and adoption fees to support our programs.
