The Humane Society of Polk County, Inc was started in 1981 and after years of saving from donations, bingo and the selling of pull-tabs, there was enough money to start the construction of a shelter building. The shelter opened up in December 1993. Thru the years the shelter survived on the donations, bingo and the selling of pull-tabs. In 2004, bingo and the selling of pull-tabs came to an end. The shelter building closed it's door in 2006. In June 2008 after almost 2 years of struggling the shelter doors were re-opened. We are staffed by volunteer workers. We are always in need of volunteers to help with the morning cleaning.

Our purpose is to provide shelter and care for the abused, neglected, unwanted, abandoned and stray animals in the Polk County area. Our goal is to find new loving, caring homes for them. We are a no-kill shelter. All animals old enough are spayed/neutered before adoption.

Our Thirft Store above the shelter opened in September and will bring in more funds to run the shelter. Come on in and check out the great deals. There is everything from clothes, furniture, books to toys. The store hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 11am -5pm Thursday are 11am-7pm.
We are currently covering expenses with donations. We are hoping for 300 families/individuals to pledge a $10 donation per month for 12 months. This would give us the $3,000 a month needed to run the shelter building.

Our shelter is located at 720 East Robert St. Crookston, MN. It is on the east side of town across from Happy Joe's Pizza. Our hours are Monday thru Friday 11am to 5pm and Saturdays 11am to 4pm. Our phone number is (218)281-7225.
