WHO WE ARE!
Beltrami Humane Society is a NO-KILL 501(c)(3) Non profit agency comprised of many dedicated volunteers and staff who care for homeless, stray, and abandoned dogs and cats Northern Minnesota. We are a leading humane society in the Northern part of the state, with outreach programs on two Native American reservations in our area, helping to feed, shelter and rescue stray, abused or abandoned dogs. Beltrami Humane Society rescues dogs and cats from local municipal animal impounds when their time is up, rehabilitates them and finds them new homes! We take in stray and abandoned animals off the street, as well as take in personal pets whose owners are no longer able to care for them. We work hard to find loving homes for every adoptable animal! If you have room in your family for a loving pet, please take a look at our pets listed on Petfinder.com or come visit the Shelter!
NEEDED SUPPLIES
The shelter is currently in DESPERATE NEED of kitten chow, canned cat food and clay litter. We always need bleach, copy paper, paper towels, latex gloves, window cleaner, toilet paper, laundry detergent & dryer sheets. We are also in need of utility shelves and Rubbermaid-type linen closets to organize our warehouse. Consider donating today! It will warm your heart, and help those who cannot speak for themselves.
Beltrami Humane Society receives NO city, state, or governmental funding of any kind, and is funded through the kind donations of area people. While we support their basic mission, we do not receive funding from, nor contribute funding to, the Humane Society of the United States. We ask your support today! We invite you to come for the afternoon! Hang out with good company, and find a new friend!
HOW LONG IS A LIFETIME?
Dogs and cats, with good care, can live to be 10-15 years old or older.
Before you take on the RESPONSIBILITY of adopting a pet, ask yourself these questions:
1) How old will you be 15 years from now?
2) How many times do you think you might move in the next 15 years?
3) Are you willing to move the pet too, and restrict your choice of housing to places where pets are allowed?
4) Will you change jobs? A new job that requires travel or long hours could mean extra boarding or pet sitting expenses.
5) Will you have enough time each day to exercise your pet?
6) What other major changes might happen in your life in the next 15 years? Marriage? Children?
7) Are you willing to continue spending the time, energy, & money to care for your pet when taking on new responsibilities?
8) Are you willing to re-train your pet so its behavior is acceptable to a new roommate, spouse, or child?
9) If you are getting a pet for kids you have now, how old will they be in 15 years?
10) Will you still want this pet after the kids move out?
11) Have you previously owned a pet you didn't keep for at least 10 years? If so, what happened to it?
12) What will you do to ensure a new pet has a home for life?
