We are officially fundraising for a new shelter. The current shelter is adequate but due to the increase in animals every year, it is only a temporary solution. We need your help in order to continue helping the animals of Kandiyohi County. Please consider a donation or volunteering your time. We need volunteers in every area- playing with animals, walking dogs, grant writing, fundraiser help, etc!

Our Adoption Policies
* The Humane Society of Kandiyohi County (HSKC) reserves the right to refuse adoption to any person.
* Before a person living in rental housing can adopt an animal, HSKC needs permission from the landlord to have the animal on the premises
* HSKC will not adopt to individuals with known history of animal abuse or cruelty, repeated animal control violations or previous violation of adoption contracts
* Animals need a certain amount of individual attention so HSKC will refuse adoption to homes with excessive numbers of animals.
* HSKC discourages animals as gifts and therefore promotes gift certificates.
* People adopting are expected to follow animal ordinances enforced in their community, including needed vaccinations, licensing and leash law requirements.
* People adopting a dog are required to either have a fenced yard in which the animal can exercise and be restricted from running at large, or be able to show that they will provide adequate exercise under humane control.
* A temporary identification tag will be given to people adopting a dog or cat to be used until permanent identification is obtained.
* Animals deemed to be a potential danger to the community (people or other animals) will not be adopted to anyone
* HSKC will never place wild or exotic animals as pets. This includes hybrids of wild or domestic animals.
* You will accept the animal in an "as is" condition.
* Animals will not be adopted into a situation where they remain outdoors at all times.
* HSKC adopts animals to be companions and will not adopt a dog to individuals intending to use them primarily for guarding or a cat to function merely as barn cats or mousers.
* HSKC will never adopt out animals to be used for breeding purposes.
* You are required to provide routine vaccinations, adequate food, water, shelter and exercise.
* You are not to transfer ownership without consulting the Humane Society of Kandiyohi County at (320) 235-7612 or shelter@thehskc.com.

Volunteering and Donating
If you love animals, the Humane Society is a great place to give some of your time to help save the ones that are less fortunate. We also satisfy all types of "fur fixes" for those that can't have animals or just can't get enough! If you are interested in fundraising or would like to help in ANY other way, please contact us! We are always in need of volunteers to play with and socialize the pets. We also are always in need of donations. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the shelter at (320) 235-7612. Items that we are always in need of are: dog and cat food (canned and dry), newspaper, clay litter, towels/bedding, grooming supplies (brushes, combs, shampoo), dog and cat treats, chew toys, etc. If you would like to donate, please call the shelter at the number listed above or you can drop it off at the shelter during viewing hours. THANK YOU!
