| We use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here. |
Our dogs are adopted only to be inside dogs as it is often the lack of attention many outside dogs receive that causes them to stray in the first place. Dogs do not want to be alone the majority of the time. They are pack animals and they want to be with the pack which is you and your family when you adopt them. We also don't want our dogs to spend a life chained. Chaining a dog over prolonged periods cause many bad habits to develop. There is much information on the internet in regard to the detriments of chaining a dog. Dogs that are chained learn to jump, dig, bark needlessly and live a miserable life.
Our adoption fees generally range from $50-$200. Dogs are shown by appointment only as our availability is not regular due to personal employment schedules. Many of the dogs are in foster homes so arrangements need to be made for viewing. Dogs must be returned to the rescue if an adoption does not work our for any reason. Please understand that we CAN NOT hold a dog for you. If you set up an appointment to see a dog a week out, please understand that that particular dog is still available for others to adopt during that time. If a dog gets adopted prior to your appointment, we will let you know so you don't make a wasted trip. Our efforts are to get the dogs into appropriate matching homes for that dog as quickly as possible and make a space for another dog in need and to pass other approved adoptors by is not in the best interest of the dog. If you are interested in any of our dogs, please give us a call or send an e-mail. We will get back to you as soon as possible but if you do not hear from us please try again. With an enormous amount of spam email, it is easy to miss one here or there and even though we have an answering machine, numbers are not always clearly understood and your message may have inadvertantly been missed. Thank you for your patience and we hope to hear from you! We may have your next companion canine waiting!!
Hello Tama & Mark:
I thought I would send you a quick update on Kayde (Lady). She is doing absolutely wonderful and we all love her to death! I just had a gut feeling that she was the perfect dog for us and I was so right!! She and Bear get along famously but some times when Bear doesn't feel like playing, Kayde just keeps jumping all over him until he finally chases her. They chase each other around the yard for hours. She has several favorite chew toys and she likes to hide them so Bear can't have them. She has turned in to quite the playful little girl. We have taken her up to Brainerd to our lake place a couple of times and I think she is really going to love going boating this summer. She has loved playing in the little bit of snow we've gotten. She LOVES going for car rides and she loves going with me to Petsmart to visit all the other dogs and people. She has been to the groomers and to the vet and she was super for both!! I haven't downloaded my pictures of her on to the computer yet but as soon as I do, I will forward some to you.
I am so glad I found her, she has already become such a precious part of our family!
Thank you so much for the very special work that you do with the rescue!
Tamara
Hello!
We have had Delilah (a/k/a Della) for five weeks now so I thought I would take a few minutes to let you know how she is doing.
Delilah is a perfect fit for our family. It's almost like we've had her all her life. She slept with her head on our daughter Amy's lap on the car ride home. No crying or whining, just sighs of contentment. The first night with us she slept in the "dog bedroom" with our Newfoundland, Samson. She staked her claim on the bed with extra blankets, curled up & slept all night. I'm not sure Sam got much sleep that night, but bless him for being gracious & sharing his room.
It took a few weeks for the dogs to get to know one another. With each passing week they would sniff one another a little more & sleep a little closer at night. Last week they really started playing together. They enjoy tug of war with any toy that is available & they love to chase one another. Delilah likes to bite Samsons toes & he likes to bite her ears. They have become inseparable.
Delilah enjoys her walks & spending evenings in our family room, curled up on the sofa by the cornstove. Delilah is very happy & so are we.
She has gained a few pounds & her ribs don't show quite so much anymore. I think the scrambled duck eggs on her breakfast have helped her fill out a little.
Thank you for Delilah, she's a sweetie.

Hi Tama,
Just wanted to give you an update on Jake (aka Gumbie). He is doing
absolutely WONDERFUL. He gets along great with all animals (including
chickens) and loves everybody. Attached is a recent picture of him. He's
pushing 30+ lbs. He fetches, sits, and shakes on command. He really digs
jumping and loves to run. He's been great for my other 12 year old dog's
health. They chase after each other all the time and the old dog is getting
a lot of needed exercise.
Thanks again, we're very fortunate to have Jake in the family.

Mark,
You may remember that we adopted Mabel from you almost 4 weeks ago now. We are very happy with her. She is a wonderful dog and (as you said) very well trained. We are very impressed with her. She is a very loving and well behaved dog.
Attached are two pictures of her with one of her new dog toys. I wanted you to know how happy we are with her and feel free to use this on your website if you like.

Hi Tama,
We are so glad to have Hero as part of our home - he's just great for us!! He's been really fun. He's starting to get a personality now that he feels totally at home with us. Now that we're getting to know him better, we have renamed him Sonic.
He has had a few very minor training issues that we're working through, but he's totally housetrained. He ran a 5k race with us benefiting our local YMCA, and did well with the crowd and a few other dogs. He seems to really like running with us and he enjoys when we have people over at our house. We are also highly amused to find out that while he loves to bolt out the front door if given a tiny opening, he doesn't get very far because our other dog, an aussie with herding tendencies, always runs him back home. They are becoming great buddies. I'll send a few photos.
thank you for what you do!!
Linda, Wayne, Charlie, and Sonic.
Hello again,
Just wanted to give you a bit of an update on our good friend Tivo. Since we adopted him in April, Tivo has been a great companion all around, joining Lucy and me in and outdoors. He likes to curl up on the couch next to us to watch movies and play video games. Sometimes he likes to sleep on his back between me and the couch when we both get a chance to sneak a midday nap on days off. He's a great walking/running partner and loves to get out in the woods and fields to explore the great outdoors with me.
If you can remember Tivo had a bit of trouble learning commands and sitting still, but with a bit of patience and practice he has made some outstanding progress in this area. He has recently learned to fetch, sit, stay, heel, lie down and is doing so well on a leash we've started carting training in the last week and seems to like it so far. He will be a working dog yet!
We would like to thank you for everything you do to give dogs like Tivo another chance and hope more people will start adopting from shelters. We definitely recommend it now that we have Tivo!
All the best,
Steve and Lucy
P.S. The Beagle/Bloodhound in one of the pictures is also another Petfinder/shelter success. A friend of ours adopted Petunia from a shelter the twin cities. Another outstanding pup! Tivo and her get along very nicely as you can see.
Hello Tama and Mark,
My husband and I adopted Tyme from you in June. We have re-named her Daisy. She has made the adjustment to her new home with flying colors. She is very social with all pets and people. Daisy's favorite things are playing with her step-brother, Rosco, leading the way while we're hiking and begging for popcorn. She is such a wonderful addition to our family. Everyone who meets her either says "can I keep her" or how sweet she is. We were so very lucky to have found her. Enclosed are a few pictures of our little girl. I almost forgot; we did get her spayed in July.
Thank you for everything you do for dogs that need homes.
Sincerely,
Heidi & Paul

Hi Mark and Tama,
I just wanted to send you an update on Huey. My children renamed him and
we call him “Buddy”. The name fits him perfectly because he really is a
buddy to everyone in our family. He goes with us wherever we go. He
sleeps on the bed with us at night and comes with me to work everyday.
He fetches balls and we have taught him to ‘sit’ and ‘come’ so far. He
watches TV on my kids’ lap and always wants to be near us. His heart
murmur is doing the same, but he is in excellent health otherwise. His
heart condition doesn’t seem to keep him down at all. He seems to be
enjoying himself all the time. We are taking very good care of him and
we think we have found the best dog in the world. I have attached a
picture of him to share. His summer hair cut is so short, that he almost
looks like a German Shorthair puppy. He is completely adorable. Thank
you for letting us adopt him and bring him into our family.
Best wishes,
~Angie
Hi, we just wanted to give you an update on Sugar. We have found the perfect dog for our family. She is so gentle with our two year old. She loves to garden with me and play hide and seek with our eight year old. She would make an excellent search and rescue dog. She loves to take naps in the sunshine and has a wonderful smile. She is always happy and very smart. She loves to go fishing in our goldfish pond. So far she hasn't been successful but it's still better than a day at work. Our cat made the mistake of taking one look at her and took off running. Now Sugar thinks oh thats how we play "Chase, OK I'm great at that". Something that seems to be improving our these last 6 months. We couldn't love her more. She has such a wonderful sense of humor and disposition. Thank you for helping us find her.
Sincerely,
Gene, Stephanie, Levi, and Kristen
Mark and Tama,
Just wanted to give you an update on Desy the black lab mix I got about a month ago. She is doing great. She was a little unsure of herself when she first came and had to do some adjusting. She is very obedient and obeys almost right away most of the time :). Desy goes for walks almost every day with me and my daughter and she does great on the leash. She LOVES car rides and I take her with me whenever I can. She goes to work with me one day a week every week. She did though did not like our first cat and we did have to give her to my sister but a kitten walked into our yard a week ago and we took her in. She does fine with her except she does snap at her when he kitten plays with her feet:). She did have alot of itching and scratching when she first came here and we figured out she was allergic to her food so we switched it and now she is doing fine. Just letting you know that she is a wonderful dog and thank you very much!

Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that Mercedes (Sadie) is doing great. She fit right in and its like she's been here forever. I took her into the local vet today and she got a clean bill of health. Thank you so much for participating in her rescue. I've inclulded a couple of pictures from yesterday. Yes, by all means, feel free to use her picture. She continues to do great and has made friends with several of the other dogs in the neighborhood. She has also won the hearts of my neighbors. She is quite delightful to say the least. Thank you again for the work that you do.

Sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you, Tama. Here is a picture of Teak, now known as Rudy! He is very happy, very healthy, and a wonderful addition to our house. We’re now in obedience classes and this morning when I took him for a walk he was heeling at my side with a slack leash about 7/8 of the time. It’s a miracle. He also knows many other important behaviors (sit, down, wait, go see Bill!) and a few tricks (tummy up, give me a paw, touch my hand). He’s very smart, so it’s obvious that no one took the time to teach him anything until now. We go for long walks 2-3 times a day, and this week we will go to the dog park for the first time. We have him microchipped as a security measure, but he is very good about coming, and obeying offleash. Rudy also participated in our Annual St. Francis Rescue Walk for the Animals and was a very good boy all day long – no problems with other dogs, little children, noises, etc.
Thank you so much for being a part of his rescue and contribution toward his new life. Your efforts have paid off tenfold!
Have a great summer J
Hi Mark-
Beau is now named Winston. With him being English and all, Craig thought that an English name was more appropriate (as in Winston Churchill). Winston is a great dog and a wonderful addition to our family. We took him to the vet for his rabies shot and put a micro- chip in him so we'll never lose him! He does well in the house (and even with the cats)- although he HOGS the bed! Yep, Winston is quite spoiled and gets to sleep with us (and a cat!). He is getting better on the leash, but sure gets excited with all the spring smells in the air. Craig is starting to train him for hunting. Since we haven't found any toys he likes
Hi Mark & Tama,
Here is a recent photo of Flicker who we adopted last year in June (he likes to pose for the camera). He has come a long ways but we wouldn't know what to do without him now that he has become a part of our family. Flicker is usually my shadow most of the time but loves to play with the kids especially chasing them and playing fetch with balls, frisbees and well anything that can be thrown. He definitely is living the good life, he even has his own couch and a multitude of toys and plenty of room to roam.

We adopted Maggie (pitbull/pointer mix) almost a year ago. I would like to let you know that she is doing fabulous. We have broken her habit of going after little furry animals, as well as her going crazy when she sees another dog. Maggie has a backyard with 5.5 acres. She loves it!!! Maggie also has her very own "toddler" bed that she sleeps in, she's not spoiled or anything!! I will send some cute pics of her soon.
Thanks again for letting us adopt a fabulous dog!!

Hi Mark and Tama!
Just thought I'd send another ZuZu update. I think the first one I sent was on the same weekend I brought her home. It's now over a month later and I thought I'd let you know how our sweet girl is doing. I was going to send one earlier but I couldn't figure out how to get the picture on the computer. That finally happened, so here goes! She has settled in quite nicely here. We just love her to pieces. My husband calls himself "dad" and takes her on walks more than I do. (This surprises me, actually. I didn't see him doing that!). I have been driving her into the city, (St. Paul), to this really fabulous dog park, and letting her run and socialize with other dogs and people as often as I can. She just loves it there. It's a huge park that's totally fenced in with hills, woods, and brush, and lots of different paths she can run on. There are always other dogs and of course their owners. She is really good natured and gets along with everyone. She has a blast there! My husband thinks I'm nuts for driving her into the city like that but it's something she can't get out in the country. We are too isolated out here. We don't see other dogs and people like that and she can't run free because of the highways. I have not let her run free around my chickens yet. She has gotten away from me twice and run through them and come back to me however, and nothing happened. I just want to make sure nothing does. I'm still working with her in that area. She did chase the cats through the house and up onto a very tall wardrobe in an upstairs bedroom when we were at work the other day. The cats were none the worse for wear and very little was knocked over in the house. Took us awhile to find the cats when we got home though :) She has learned to ignore the parrots and I'm quite proud of her for that. It's not an easy thing to do. They tease her mercilessly. Smart birds are not necessarily a good thing! She and the tortoise have gotten used to each other too. All in all I'd have to say everything is going very well, and I told her we are lucky to have her!
Thanks again, and best wishes for a great holiday season!

Just wanted to say HI. Hey, Bud (Bam) is doing fine with us. He acts like he has been here forever. We all love him. We just wanted to say hi and tell you how great he is doing with us. He is learning so much and already knows how to sit, and kind of stay. He waits for us to call him when we go out to the horses. He has chased the cats and is learning not to. He lays down when we tell him to most of the time or when we want to brush him. He LOVES to be brushed and to be pet. He has gotten to be so calm and acts like he is older than he is. He is the best thank you for letting us adopt him. He just loves it here and all of his toys. Oh did I mention that he LOVES attention and doesn’t like to be ignored but you must have known that. Again thanks for everything and being so nice. We love him here and he loves it too.
Hi Mark & Tama-
I just missed your phone call about Red. He is doing great. He loves all the kids and the attention he gets. He loves going for walks with me and our lab - and he is improving on his walking on a leash, by not walking in so many circles. The dogs are getting along great - even becoming partners in crime by breaking into the food container together. I have attached pictures of Red making himself at home his second day here and playing farm with the kids. He is all we could have hoped for and we all just love him. Thanks so much for a great dog!

Thank you for Orion! He is a great dog. He gets along with Lizzie and loves to play with Hunter. He learns a lot by watching Lizzie. He is already house trained and he learned to shake hands yesterday. He is very calm and mellow in the house, except when Hunter plays fetch with him in the kitchen. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

Things have been going great in our first month with Kuma. She is a smart little dog and is making training easy. Already she can sit, lay down, shake a paw, and speak! She has been a great addition to our lives and everyone around us too! Hope all is well and I can't thank you enough for bringing Kuma into our lives:)
Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Mark and Tama,
I’ve been a pretty good girl in my new home. I’ve gotten used to walking on the stairs and going into the garage to go outside when I have to go to the bathroom. But now I really don’t walk down the stairs “I fly”! I run around in the yard a lot and get my exercise. When I’m done I wait by the door to go in the house. I had a bath in the bathtub. I like getting a bath. My mom put me in the tub and when I’m done, I ever so gently get out all by myself. My coat is soft now. Once I rolled in something kinda stinky outside and sometimes nibble on poop. I got my rabies shot, tested negative to heartworm and lyme and had my itchy spots checked out (the doctor did a scraping on one but didn’t find any fungus). I have to go back to the doctor on December 26 because I’m still itchy. The pills I have to take, that mom wraps in cheese, aren’t working. I had a couple of fleas and got frontline on my back. I’m still getting used to riding in the car. I make my humans laugh because I do some really funny things. When I looked into the mirror I slowly move my head away from f the mirror and then I quickly moved back to see if that other dog was still looking at me. At night, when I’m laying on the couch, I look out the window and see my reflection and I bark. Every time I see my cat Lily I whine and go up to her to sniff her. She usually just hisses or swats at me and runs away. Sometimes at night she can lay or sit by me and I don’t care. I chew lots of rawhides, nylon bones, and a furry dog squeaker that I get squeakin’ fast.
I went to my Grandma and Grandpa’s house in Fridley on Thanksgiving Day and met them for the first time. They both think I’m a very sweet and nice girl. Attached are two pictures of Dawson and me on Thanksgiving at G & G’s house.
Have a great Holiday and a Happy New Year!!! Love, Ripple
