We are always looking for awesome new foster parents. We work diligently to pair you with the perfect foster dog. We will NOT make you foster a dog you do not feel 100% comfortable with. Even if you have very specific criteria, let us know. As soon as we get a dog in that matches, we will let you know!! One life saved is worth it!!
Secondhand Hounds is a small, 501(c)3 status, volunteer-run rescue group based in Minneapolis. All of our animals are in foster homes, where they are part of a family until they find their “forever” homes. We do not specialize in any specific dog breed, although we do have a soft spot for “bully” breeds! Please check out our available animals! If you find one you would like to meet, please fill out the adoption application and we will be in contact as soon as possible (usually we will respond the same day you inquire).
The adoption process works like this: 1. Potential applicant searches adoptable animals and fills out application, http://secondhandhounds.org/adoption-information/adoption-application/ (found at secondhandhounds.org) 2. Foster reviews applications and schedules a “meet and greet.” 3. If foster and adopter agree it’s a good fit, then a home visit request will be sent and vet/reference checks will be done. 4. After home visit is completed and approved, payment and signature of adoption contract are requested (fee includes the cost of the age appropriate spay/neuter surgery, microchip implant, heart worm test, rabies/distemper vaccinations, and feLeuk/FIV test (we don’t microchip cats since we require them to be indoors). Kittens must be at least 8 weeks old and at least 2 pounds to be spayed/neutered before adoption. *Adoption fees are non-negotiable* 5. Once payment and adoption contract are received and completed, the new owner(s) can pick up their pet! THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING SECONDHAND HOUNDS!

Donations and adoption fees keep Secondhand Hounds up and running! We are pending 501(c)3, so if you don't feel comfortable donating via PayPal, we can always use physical donations of crates, food, bowls, leashes, collars, etc. Just email me at Rachel@SecondhandHounds.org for a drop off spot or shipping address! Thanks for considering helping dogs in need. We appreciate it so very much. For other ways to help, please check out fostering or fun activities that benefit our rescue!
