Who We Are

Founded in 1869, the Minnesota Humane Society (MHS) is the oldest humane society in Minnesota. MHS is a statewide education, advocacy and no-kill rescue organization dedicated to protecting the lives and interests of Minnesota's animals--both domesticated and wild. MHS does not operate a shelter; animals are kept in foster homes. Organized as a private, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization, MHS does not receive any government funding and relies entirely on private donations.

Adopting a friend

All adopters will complete an application and sign a contract agreeing to the terms and conditions of the adoption. There is a four-week trial period in which the adoption fee is refunded to you if the animal does not work out. If you are unable to keep the animal after the four-week trial, you must return it to MHS. However, the adoption fee will not be refunded. MHS reserves the right to deny an adoption if it is not in the best interest of the animal.
