HELP FEED HUNGRY HORSES!!! We are in desperate need of HAY for RESCUE HORSES! The more hay we get donated/sponsored, the more horses our rescue can accept and help. We can only take in as many as we can feed and care for properly. Donating hay helps us free up funds to pay medical bills for gelding studs, floating teeth, deworming, vaccinating, wound care, rehabilitation etc. You can send a credit card donation via our Paypal link below, or contact the rescue at 218-467-3309 to make arrangements!

We have the opportunity to purchase as many round bales as we need at a locked in price of 35$ a bale. It takes about 10 round bales to feed each horse through winter. Consider sponsoring a winter's worth of feed! With foreclosures hitting the nation, people have been forced to give up their pets- horses included. We need the public's help to care for these lost souls until permanent, loving homes can be found for them.

We are in desperate need of a horse trailer and a round pen!

You can now make donations to our rescue efforts via Paypal! Please be sure to let us know which pet you'd like to help out with it!!

Who We Are

WhipStaff Ranch and Rescue is celebrating it's 17th year of operation in 2007! We are the only animal welfare organization in the northern part of the state that is able to work with all species of animals. Animals accepted into our rescue are treated like they were our own pets until we place them into a new home. We tell you everything we know about the animal- good points and bad habits that need work. We work with livestock, horses, small caged animals and more. We rehabilitate and rehome hundreds of animals each year. We are a volunteer based organization and rely on donations and adoption fees to keep the rescue going.

Our Philosophy

We work very hard to ensure that each animal that comes to the ranch, whether it be a hamster or a horse, be given individual attention on a daily basis. We work hard to ensure that each animal is given everything they need to heal and thrive, be it medical care, special food, chiropractic and massage or holistic remedies. We temperament test each animal on intake and work with them on a daily basis to get to know them. We will NOT adopt out an animal that we feel has an unstable or unsafe temperament as public safety is very important to us. As long as an animal remains healthy or treatable within reasonable means, and as long as they are sound in temperament then they can stay here until they find a home.

Adopting a friend

Remember that adoption is wonderful, but must be done with thought and concern for how you will care for the animal in the long term. Think about things that may happen- a marriage, moving, children- and how an animal would fit into the picture. Make your decision with your head as well as your heart.

If you see an animal that tickles your fancy, feel free to email (checked twice daily) or call between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm to set up an appointment to visit. Because WRAR is a working farm we may not be available for drop-in visitors, especially during the summer months, so animals are seen by appointment only. Additionally, adoptable rescue animals may be in foster homes so we may need to arrange for the foster to bring the animal to the ranch for an appointment. Thank you for your understanding!

We are happy to have you bring your entire family, including your family dog to meet a prospective adoptee. We ask that if you bring your dog to help pick out a new friend, your dog MUST be leashed because we do not allow loose dogs on our ranch. If you do not have a leash, do not take your dog out of the car without us providing you a leash.

PLEASE NOTE: We love children -- but because we are a working farm, we have livestock/equipment/fencing (such as electric fencing and large animals) which may be dangerous to small children. We do the best we can to limit these dangers, but please understand that YOU are responsible for watching your children. This is not a playground or petting zoo, nor are we babysitters. If your children have difficulty following direction, we will ask you to contain them in your vehicle or will provide you a leash. :o) This is only for your children's safety and well-being.

Certain areas of our ranch are OFF LIMITS to visitors. This includes our personal pets, our ranch animals and poultry, gardens, flowerbeds and fenced areas. This is to help control the spread of disease as well as prevent accidents. We are happy to show you the animals available for adoption.

Come Visit Us!

From Bemidji take HWY 2 West. Go 4 miles past the town of Wilton, and take a right turn onto CTY RD 507 (Northwood Road). Go 1/2 mile to the first crossroads and take a right onto Flat Balsam RD. Go another 1/2 mile to the first road that turns left, and make the left hand turn onto Meadowview RD. We are the first farm on the left hand side. Our mailbox is painted black with the POW symbol on it, we have a log home and many outbuildings. You'll see a gigantic white pine by the driveway with a long row of kennels along side it, a pirate flag flying in the yard and a enormous white goats head on our milking goat shed. If you are coming from the West, go 2 miles past the town of Solway- careful, if you blink you'll miss it! Take a left onto County Rd 507 just after 2 West Express gas station, and continue with the directions above.

Please understand that we are a family-run, volunteer-based rescue. We may not be available when you call as we have a working farm as well. Many times we are out feeding animals and cleaning pens. If you leave a message, your call will be returned within 24 hours. If you do not want to leave a message then try back in an hour or two, or email. Our animals are seen by appointment to ensure we can give you our undivided attention. Please call to make an appointment before driving out to ensure the animal you are interested in is still available for adoption. Animals are housed in foster homes as well and it may take a week to arrange a time that works for both parties to meet.
