Who We Are
Second Hand Dog is a very small, private rescue specializing in finding homes for unwanted German Shepherds and German Shepherd-mix dogs. Occasionally, cats are available for adoption also. The dogs are strays, or come from pounds and shelters or are owner-surrendered. This is run out of a private home so these dogs do not reside in a shelter, they are fostered the whole time they are waiting to be adopted. Because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. All of the dogs are vet checked, heartworm tested if over one year old, altered if 12 weeks or older, dewormed and treated for fleas if needed, and vaccinated. All of our dogs are crate-trained if possible and will generally be adopted as house dogs, with a few exceptions, depending on the dog. This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes, if you are interested in providing foster care, please call 507-951-0419. Food and crates are provided, as well as all vet care and other necessities.
