We take finding forever homes for our dogs very seriously. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption for any reason. It is helpful if you have an approved application prior to visiting the dogs at an adoption day. Please email us and we will email you an application.

Saturday, December 13, 2008 at PetsMart in Maplewood, 2370 White Bear Avenue, from 11:00 - 2:00 p.m. (Phone 651-777-9533) MapWe are a small rescue, so there may be times when we have to cancel an adoption day due to lack of volunteers or dogs, so please check with the store before you make the drive. Also, we only bring as many dogs as we have volunteers to handle, so not all of our dogs will be at an Adoption Day. Please let us know you'd like to see a dog, and we will do whatever we can to get the dog there for you.
Please come meet our adoptable animals! Maybe you'll find a love match!

Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but we don't have enough for everyone. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for another dog to sleep in comfort, please click here.

C.A.R.E.S. is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization dedicated to saving animals that may be given up on by their owners and other organizations. Unlike some other rescue organizations, we will NOT euthanize any animal for behavior issues. We believe that most, if not all, animals have behaviors that may require extra effort on the part of the owner or guardian. After all, they are animals, not humans, and they do what comes naturally to them. We respect each animal for what they are, work with them to understand and manage any inappropriate behaviors, and find an appropriate home for them. Most inappropriate behavior is simply the result of poor training or no training. No animal deserves to be euthanized because they ended up with the wrong guardians. If we cannot find an appropriate home for any dog, they will live with us until they cross over the Rainbow Bridge.
We get our dogs from a variety of places--some are owner surrenders, some come from Animal Control facilities, some come from Humane Societies, and some are strays. We do our part to help as many dogs as we can.

The number one reason that an animal is surrendered to a rescue group or shelter is because of a "behavior issue". Everybody's idea and tolerance of a "behavior issue" is different. But, in 80% of the cases, the owner has done zero training with their animal. What do you expect? Really? To help eliminate "behavior issues" due to lack of training, C.A.R.E.S. provides Basic Obedience Training for all of their dogs. They start the day we get them and it is continued until the day they are adopted. This allows us to bond with the dog, which in turn allows up to make a good and forever placement for them.
C.A.R.E.S. relies entirely on volunteers for every aspect of the organization. Being a newly-established organization, we are in need of dedicated, compassionate volunteers to help us in our mission to save homeless animals. In particular, we are in desperate need of caring foster homes. We can only save as many animals as we have foster homes. If you want to save a homeless animal by being a foster home for one of our special animals, please email us with your address and we can mail you a Foster Home Application. If you have an interest in volunteering your time and talents to our cause, please email us with your address and we can mail you a Volunteer Information Form. C.A.R.E.S. will provide training to volunteers who are not familiar with animal behavior, but have the desire to learn. Thank you for considering your time and talent to help us. Your experience saving a C.A.R.E.S. animal will be very rewarding.

Below are the items that we need to care for our animals. Please email us if you have items to donate. We will arrange some way to get the items to us.
We also need financial donations to provide veterinary care, medications and any of the above items that are not donated, for our animals. If you are able to make a financial donation, please send your check to the address below or you can click on the "Make a Donation" button above and pay through PayPal with a credit card:

We sincerely appreciate any donations of supplies or money. All contributions made to C.A.R.E.S. are tax-deductible.

Adopting a C.A.R.E.S. animal is a very personal process. The adoption fee for our animals varies from $100-$500, depending on the actual medical expenses, size, age and breed of the animal. All of the C.A.R.E.S. animals are spayed/neutered, wormed, current on vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella), heartworm tested and medicated while in our care (May-Dec), microchipped with the HomeAgain microchip, and some of them come with a Gentle Leader training collar if we feel that they need it. All dogs will also have gone through some level of a Basic Obedience Training Class.
Our animals are special and we need to do right by them. If you see one of our animals and would like to meet them, you will need to fill out an applicaton first. If you look like a good match for the dog, we can arrange a visit. All members of the family and any other dogs must be present at the meeting, or the adoption will not be finalized. We will tell you everything we know about the dog and go over everything that we have done with them. If you would like to adopt this very special friend, we may do a Home Visit or you can take them home with you--it depends on the dog and the situation. Once adopted, you will be responsible for following up with C.A.R.E.S. on a regular basis to let us know that everything is going okay and to ask us any questions that you may have along the way. We do not adopt out dogs more than two hours away from us and we do not return long distance phone calls.
