Pennington County Humane Society
Who Are We?
Pennington County Humane Society is a small organization located in Thief River Falls, MN. We are a limited-admissions shelter, meaning we do not euthanize our pets for space. Currently we are licensed for 27 dogs and 50 cats through the Minnesota Department of Animal Health. Although we are located in Pennington County, our Humane Society accepts pets from most of Northwestern Minnesota - Kittson, Roseau, Marshall, Red Lake & Pennington Counties, and the Red Lake Indian Reservation - as space allows.
The mission of Pennington County Humane Society is to promote respect for animal life, work to prevent animal homelessness in our area, and provide community education regarding the humane and ethical treatment of animals.
We are not an investigating agency, but do work closely with the local Animal Control Officer and area Law Enforcement agencies, providing whatever assistance they request of us.
What Do We Need?
Like most Humane Societies, our greatest need (beyond finding suitable homes for our pets) is money. It costs a lot to operate a shelter. All of our funding is through donations, fundraising, memorials, tributes and foundation grants. While we have managed to survive so far, it has been difficult and the effort we need to put into raising money greatly detracts from the time we need to evaluate and rehabilitate the pets who come our way in desperate need of help. If you are interested in helping us survive by providing financial assistance, please contact us at pawstrf@pawstrf.org or call 218-681-8045.
Other needs include volunteers (especially those willing to help us with our fundraising efforts), old blankets and other bedding, training collars, Halti head collars, leashes, durable toys for both cats and dogs.
