Have you wondered why our adoptable dogs our color coded purple, orange, and green in their pictures on our website? The answer is the ASPCA’s “Meet Your Match™” Adoption Program. MVHS implemented the program on May, 1st 2009. The underlying goal of the program is to increase the likelihood that adopted shelter dogs will match the lifestyles of their new families. Are you interested in finding your perfect match? Head to our website where you can take our online survey to find your color match and to view adoptable dogs in each color category. Who We Are
MVHS serves the animals and people of the greater Twin Cities South Metropolitan Area.
We are funded by adoption, surrender fees, as well as by contributions and fundraising activities. We are NOT government supported, and we do NOT receive funds or support from any other humane organization. We are a private non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. (Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.) We are supported by people who care. Click here to make a donation.
Volunteering
We operate with a small paid staff and over 350 volunteers. The MVHS was founded by volunteers in 1981.

We are located in Burnsville, just south of the Minnesota River, on Highway 13, about a mile and a half east of 35W. (Turn at the Parkwood stop light and follow the frontage road past the Dairy Queen.)
