The American Pit Bull Terrier is a unique and wonderful breed that unfortunately is greatly misunderstood. For those of you who don't know, Pit Bulls (or American Staffordshires as they are in reality the same thing) are a breed of dog that consistently gets an unfair shake in life. Most shelters do not place them up for adoption regardless of age or temperament, while adopting out countless other dogs of unsafe and questionable temperaments, not to mention questionable health.. With very few exceptions, turning a Pit Bull
in to your local shelter is a death sentence, almost guaran-
teed, regardless of your dog's age or temperament. While many shelters feel that this is "the right thing to do", I
think that their motives may once have been good, but their implementation leaves a lot to be desired. This is where I come in. I feel that any dog that is physically healthy and has a good temperament with people deserves a shot at a nice life, and I try and provide that to as many dogs as I can. My other goal is public education about Pit Bulls, and dogs in general as the
general public is severely undereducated in regards to dog behavior. To this end, any question that you may have involving any aspect of dog ownership (Pit Bull or other-
wise), like training, exercise, breed-specific information about any breed,
and the like, you are encouraged to ask me. I can even give you helpful tips on placing dogs if that is your need.
The most important thing that I can tell anyone about dogs is to make up your mind for yourself, with the help of books, vets, trainers, and most importantly, PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE. Never judge a dog by his breed, as there is as much behavioral variation within a breed as there is between different breeds.
Michigan Pit Bull Rescue is not operating as a rescue at this time. If you are interested in training, temperment evaluations, or in one of our adoptable dogs, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Adopting a friend
My adoption fee $150, which includes all vaccinations, neuter/spay, de-worming, and heartworm test. In order to adopt a dog, you must first fill out an application. If you are accepted, you must then be able to provide some kind of veterinary references or verifiable vet care records from previous pets, and other kinds of information along those lines. Finally, you must be willing to fill out an adoption contract. This contract contains mostly things that a good pet owner would naturally do anyways. Once this is done, you will have a wonderful new family member that always has a safe place to return to (with me) if things do not work out for any reason.
