Our Mission
To end companion animal homelessness, to provide the highest quality service and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, and to be a leader in promoting humane values.
Adoption Program
Please call or visit the appropriate Michigan Humane Society adoption center for more information on a specific companion animal. Be prepared with the animal's name and ID number. Loving, permanent homes are sought for the adoptable dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other animals in our care. Trained adoption counselors will help you find the right animal to fit your home and lifestyle.
Adoption Package
The Michigan Humane Society offers a comprehensive dog and cat adoption package*. Adoption fees include:
- Sterilization (spay or neuter) surgery
- Age-appropriate vaccinations
- Basic medical exam
- Behavior assessment
- Heartworm test (dogs)
- Fecal check
- One free office visit within 10 days post adoption if required (cost of treatment not included
- Trained adoption counselors to help you find the right companion animal for your home and lifestyle
*Services rendered depend on the specific needs of each animal
"Other" Adoptable Animals
In addition to dogs and cats, the Michigan Humane Society cares for hundreds of other adoptable animals each year, including: rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, birds, reptiles and more. Not all animals may be available for adoption at all times. Please contact the individual adoption centers for availability information. Additional Services Available
The Michigan Humane Society offers the following additional services to care for your companion animal. For details, please inquire at the adoption center during the adoption process:
- Microchipping ($10 discount at time of adoption)
- Testing for Feline Leukemia - only $15
- Informational handouts on animal health and behavior
- Retail items and companion animal supplies
- Heartworm preventative for dogs and puppies
- Veterinary services through our three full-service veterinary centers
Microchipping
Microchipping implantation and registration is offered at the time of adoption for a reduced fee (please contact an MHS adoption center for fees). The microchip is a tiny computer chip, about the size or a grain of rice, that is implanted between the shoulder blades of your animal. The implantation is generally done at the time of sterilization, but can also be done during regular veterinary center appointments. If your dog or cat gets loose and is turned in to any animal shelter, animal control facility or police station, a scan will be done. The information from the microchip will show your information and your animal will be returned to you.
