North Star Border Collie Rescue is a 501c3 nonprofit established to rescue, rehabilitate and seek suitable homes for unwanted or abandoned Border Collies and Australian Shepherds.
Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs and puppies, $150 for seniors, and is required at the time of signing the adoption agreement contract. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered if old enough, and those too young at the time of adoption are adopted out with a spay/neuter contract. All our dogs are microchipped, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative, on flea/tick preventative, wormed, and up to date on shots before adoption. We require personal and vet references along with a home check. There is no physical shelter as all our dogs are fostered in private homes. Our volunteers have other jobs so please have patience on return calls.
Dogs can be seen by appointment by approved adopters.
North Star is an all volunteer foster home based rescue. Since we do not have a shelter without our wonderful foster families who open up their heart and homes to a dog in need we would not be able to go on in our mission.
As a foster home, you provide a safe place, love, and training for the dog to succeed in its new home. You take pictures and post a write-up on the dog with follow-ups on their progress. Any inquiries on your foster dog are directed to you and you would respond to them.
North Star provides for all the vetting for the dog. We are here to support and guide you as a foster home.
You can be a foster home even if you don't live in Otsego, MI! We currently have foster homes in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
The need for foster homes has never been bigger. With the current economic situation the shelters are overflowing, all the rescues are full and the dogs just keep coming. We have a waiting list of dogs that need to come in and no open foster homes for them.
If you have ever thought of fostering, there is really no time like the present to give it a try! If interested, please fill out our volunteer application. If you are already an approved adopter of NSBCR, you are already approved to be a foster home. All you would need to do is email us and let us know.
If you always thought that the only way to help a rescue was by fostering a dog and therefore are not able to help you have come to the right place! There are many areas and ways to help the dogs in need. It is really a team effort to find these dogs their forever home.
There are many things done behind the scenes which are vital to a rescues operations. All of them are equally important to the group. There is something for everyone. Won't you consider taking a look at the list below and see if there is something you would be interested in helping with? With more people helping it lightens the load and we are able to Guide More Dogs Home.
If you would like to volunteer, just fill out our volunteer application. If you are an already approved adopter of North Star, you are automatically approved to volunteer-all you would need to do is contact us about what you are interested in helping with. North Star Border Collie Rescue is a non-profit corporation run solely by volunteers who give generously of their time. We depend completely on donations to keep helping the dogs in need. The adoption fee is usually enough to cover the average vetting needed for a dog. However if we get one in that is very sick it can quickly drain our finances. If you would like to make a monetary donation it can be done via paypal by clicking on the donate button on our home page or you can mail a check to:
