News

We are now adopting out fewer animals (on a limited basis) and cannot take in any more animals at this time. The rescue will become inactive once our last animal is adopted out. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please refer to other local rabbit & small animal rescues for help adopting or re-homing of small mammals.

NOTE:

Petco usually has "in store" adoptable animals that may be adopted from that location anytime the store is open, such as: adoptable cats (from local rescue), bunnies, hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, and mice that people drop off/surrender to the store. Call any Petco store for details about current animals available for "in store" adoptions.

UPDATE :

Due to my worsening allergies (I am actually allergic to all animal dander in varying degrees) I am unable to house any more adoptable rodents, hamsters, mice, or gerbils. I wish to thank everyone who has supported, encouraged, and helped me with the adoptions of small animals over the previous 2 years (2008-2009). The public response has been overwhelmingly positive for the equal welfare of small mammals as adoptable pets.

We currently have a wonderful foster dog up for adoption, please check out Tesla's profile in or adoptable pet list and consider giving her a wonderful new home if you can!

Who We Are

LCR was founded in 2008, and for 2 years primarily took in hamsters and gerbils, with the objective of finding them new and loving homes. Some people have asked me, "why do you do this?" How did I determine that there was a real need for small animal rescue? A a few years ago, as a sophomore in college, I discovered that many students would purchase small animals as dorm companions but then tire of their pets withing a few weeks. I have seen animals discarded and abandoned, and so I would take them in. I soon became a contact person for small animal rescue and began to take in and adopt out hamsters & gerbils. And so LCR was created. - Sarah
