Daisy's Doghouse Rescue's Mission Statements:

Daisy's Doghouse Rescue is an organization dedicated to rescuing small dogs from being euthanized in shelter situations. All of these companion animals were either in danger of being euthanized in animal shelters, neglected or abused, or taken from the public (when space permits) so they are not bounced around to different homes or collected and sold to research labs, or used as bait dogs by dog fighting rings.

We do not have a shelter or kennel. We place the pets in wonderful volunteer foster homes. We are a volunteer based group and have no paid employees and no government funding. We are working on becoming 501c charitable rescue and are definitely non-profit.

Because we are a non- profit organization that does not receive local or federal funding, we depend on fundraisers along with support from our community to keep us operational along with our adoption fee's. Daisy's Doghouse Rescue is committed not only to saving the lives of homeless animals but to public education. It is our belief that with knowledge about responsible pet guardianship (in all its forms), we can curb and eventually end, the suffering of neglected animals and the tragedy of pet overpopulation which causes the senseless deaths of millions of animals every year.

Prior to being placed in responsible and loving homes, all of the animals receive a health examinations, spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick treatment, heartworm tests (if age appropriate), heartworm medication (if age appropriate), just to name the routine treatment. If any additional medical issues need to be addressed we tend to those as well.

Our screening and placement procedures speak to a high standard, as it is our goal to ensure a quality match between dog and guardian. We perform a routine home visit prior to adoption, require adoption contracts and adoption fees, and make it our policy to be a valuable resource for adopters for the life of the relationship. After all, adopting a dog is a lifelong commitment. We want to be there to help.

Other community services provided by Daisy's Doghouse Rescue include: referrals to low and no-cost spay/neuter services, grooming referrals, referrals to dog training and behavior classes, informational booths and displays at local community fairs, networking with other rescue groups, shelters, and humane societies and supporting animal friendly laws.

Adopting a friend

To adopt a dog from our rescue you must do the following:

Fill out our adoption application, this must be done before you can move on to anything else. Once your application has been gone over someone from the rescue will contact you about setting up for a home visit or to talk about your application with you. If all goes well after the home visit the adoption can proceed and you will be required to sign a legal contract with the rescue for the dog along with paying the adoption fee, which will run between $250 and $350 dollars depending on what vetting has had to be done with the dog. This fee is to cover our adoption service and not to be considered the value of the dog. We will only adopt out in a 2 hour radius of Canton Michigan, no out of state adoption or shipping of dogs.

While our adoption process may be annoying and too time consuming for some people we need you to understand that our rescue dogs will always will be our first concern. Some of our rescue dogs have special needs, and require special homes where the people are familiar with the breed, some of our rescue dogs will do better in homes with older people, and some with younger people. This is why we have you fill out the application, do a home visit etc. and go through the "screening" process. We DO NOT adopt out on a first come first serve basis. We match the right dog with the right home.

If you have a small dog needing rescue:

We understand that this may be a stressful and heart wrenching time for your family. We try to make the process as easy as we can. Please understand that there are times when we must delay or be unable to accepting owner surrenders. Shelter dogs always take priority, as they will often be euthanized due to space limitations at most facilities. If you must surrender your dog immediately due to an emergency, please contact your nearest shelter.

To surrender a dog to Daisy's Doghouse Rescue you will need to meet the following requirements.

The dog must be 20 pounds or under, in other words a small breed dog. The dog must be up to date with all shots. The dog must have a negative heartworm test. The dog needs to be s/n. You will be required to sign a release form, giving owner ship of the dog to Daisy's Doghouse Rescue. A donation to help cover the dogs care while in our foster program is appreciated as well.

We do not accept dogs with any aggression issues so please don't ask us to. We temperament test all dog as well as health checks, please be aware that we will humanly have a dog put to sleep if it is aggressive or is suffering from health concerns.

If you have a small dog that needs rescuing and you can not afford any of the requirements above please email us and we will see if we can still help.

Contact Rachel at Daisysdoghouserescue@yahoo.com if you need to release a dog to our rescue.
