Please spay and neuter your pets!

Hello everyone. First of all, thank you to those who came and showed their support! We are very happy with the overall event, and including everything from bid items to cash donations we made $2,500.00 for FOF!

If you missed it, you missed some great stuff. The quality of items was excellent. We had two custom made cat trees. One was bought by Janette and her husband Dave, the other was bought by Michele...and given to the kittens at the adoption center. (thank you!)

We want to thank Chris and her family. They made it happen. She spent likely hundreds of hours on this event. She made calls, did the leg work, and collected most all of the donated items. She got the location, the food, everything. I only did invites, and some other minor things. THANK YOU CHRIS.

Our Featured Cat...

Erin was rescued in May of 2009 with her 3 littermates. Gina went down to TN for some volunteer work on a spay/neuter clinic. On the last day, a woman brought in these tiny, sickly, feral kittens. They were too young and too sick to be fixed that day. She had no other options for them, so Gina brought them back to MI and put them in her adoption program.

Erin's 3 littermates have all found homes, but she is still waiting, perhaps because she was the shyest of the bunch. She has grown into a beautiful young cat of 7 months now. She is a little bit reserved, but does like to be petted, and also likes other kitties.

We will be having an adoption event...

...at Brooknelle Pet Resort, 4600 Knapp NE. Every third Saturday of the month from 10am - 2:00 pm.

For every kitten that is adopted another kitten will have a chance at a healthy happy life. Kitten season has been especially busy this year and we have been at capacity for some time now. Sadly this means people who want to help the cats and kittens in their area are being turned away because of limited resources.

So if any of our little cuties have caught your fancy this is the perfect opportunity to come meet them! We will have volunteers available to help with filling out applications and conducting interviews all day.

Thank you to all our volunteers!!! We couldn't do this with out you!

If you are interested in volunteering for this event please e-mail us and we will get right back to you.

Our Adoption Fees...

The adoption fee for cats $75.00 or two for $100.00. They come spayed/neutered, tested for FIV and FeLV, wormed, treated for fleas and is up to date on his/her vaccines.

Cats adjust better with a friend. Take two and get half off the adoption fee for the second cat!

Who We Are

If you've ever seen cats in an alleyway eating out of dumpsters, or blending into the wild habitat of a wooded area, and wondered about their condition and how you could help them, read on...

Photobucket

Some of them, having been lost or abandoned, have found their way to a colony where they can survive amongst other felines. But the majority live out their lives as feral, or "wild", cats. Being either born in the wild and never having had human contact, or reverting to a wild state after having been abandoned; the great majority of feral cats cannot be tamed. Generally, attempts at taming or adoption of ferals prove to be fruitless. Our efforts can be realized one-hundred-fold if we do the greatest good for the greatest number of ferals by stopping the cycle of reproduction.

Photobucket

Communities can help these forgotten cats by providing them with food, water, shelter, and spaying/neutering services through the "Trap-Neuter-Return" full management program.

Briefly, TNR consists of the humane trapping, sterilization, and return of feral cats to their familiar habitat to be cared for daily by dedicated volunteers. Kittens under eight weeks and/or tame cats are placed into adoption programs.

You can be a part of our life saving mission...

By contributing to this cause, you will not only impact the quality of life for these cats, but will also help these kitties to live the "nine lives" they deserve. As a responsible pet owner knows, medical care can be costly. We need your help to continue to expand our efforts, reaching as many cats as possible.

Volunteers and Foster Homes Nedded!!

Here at Focus on Ferals we do a little bit of everything that involves cat rescue. But we have two major functions. One is TNR, which is spay and neuter of all stray and feral cats, with the purposes of population control and improving the quality of life.

The second is adoption of kittens we have rescued. FOF was created mainly for TNR. We would love to just do TNR! But kittens come with the territory, and we much prefer to tame and adopt them than to fix and return them. This is where we really need you!

It used to be there was a "kitten season", which was kind of in the spring and summer. But kitten season is now basically all the time from March through December. We get a lull in Jan-Feb, which gives the older kittens (we call them teenagers) and the adoptable adults a chance to find homes. But the rest of the year we are swimming in babies!

We are the only rescue that takes in, socializes, and adopts out feral kittens. We get many calls referred to us by other rescues and shelters, in addition to the calls from the general public. We get more calls for help with feral kittens than we can possibly handle. That is because we are limited by space, time and money.

Our kitten adoption center can only comfortably house 15-20 kittens. We have another space available to us which could double the number of kittens we can accomodate. But we need the volunteers to staff it first. We also have a handful of foster homes, but if we could get several more, we could increase our intake.

Foster homes provide invaluable help because it is best for the kittens to be in a normal home environment for socialization. It also helps to keep them healthy because at the shelter they are constantly exposed to illness. If you want to foster, but don't have experience with feral kittens, we always have kittens who are already tame.

If you would prefer to foster adult cats, we have those too! We have friendly moms who are nursing babies. We have feral moms nursing babies. We have pretty much every type of cat/kitten in our program, and we can match the foster cat(s) to your home.

Our major requirement for both foster homes and volunteers is that you are dependable. We need dedicated people who are willing and able to be there for the cats. If you are seriously interested in volunteering or fostering, please contact us today!

Our Stats

Since we began in the summer of 2005, we have spayed/neutered 1176 feral/stray cats who are now living better lives under the daily supervision of caring volunteers.

Photobucket

411 feral kittens have come through our doors, been socialized and adopted out to their forever homes.

Photobucket

138 adoptable adult cats have been found living in the feral colonies. They have all been adopted or transferred to other rescue organizations.

Photobucket

According to the Feral Cat Coalition of San Diego, California
A pair of breeding cats, which can have two or more litters per year, can exponentially produce 420,000 offspring over a seven-year period, And the overpopulation problem carries a hefty price tag. Statewide, more than $50 million (largely from taxes) is spent by animal control agencies and shelters for cat-related expenses.

We are making a difference!
