SPECIAL CARE PROJECT
Michigan Weimaraner Rescue is proud to announce a division of our
rescue the "Special Care Project". Areas of this program that are still in
development include, but are not limited to a special needs and hospice
foster care program, and a virtual foster program allowing individuals to
become benefactors to senior, special needs and hospice dogs. We are most excited to announce that our "Seniors to Seniors" program is up and
running.
Studies have consistently shown that sharing your life with a
canine companion decreases stress and has many beneficial health effects.
We all know living with our gray ones makes us better people. Many
times the main obstacle to seniors adopting and owning a pet are the
costs involved. Through MWR's Senior to Senior program senior dogs
(over 7 yrs) will be matched to senior adopters(over 60 yrs ). Adoptions
fees will be reduced to half and some of the normal health costs such as
monthly heart worm preventative and Rabies shots will be included with
the adoption.
We appreciate every ones help to make this work; that may
be anything from informing the senior Weim lovers in your life of the
program, to doing home checks, or offering transport help in getting the
dogs to their new home or helping a senior get their pet into a
veterinarian. And of course monetary donations are always welcome.
Michigan Weimaraner Rescue has qualified to become a state licensed shelter in the state of Michigan. We are honored that we have been chosen as 1 of only 500 rescues and shelters to be an ambassador in the Purina Pro Plan "Rally To Rescue" program, dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the cause of pet rescue. You and your pet can show your support by wearing a collar and wristband set. We are currently taking orders, for details contact Robert at:iluvfish2@yahoo.comOur "PUPPY PANTRY" is now open and online. Check out our new items... Who We AreMichigan Weimaraner Rescue, Inc. is a not for profit, federal 501(c)3 charitable organization founded in 1993 by Chris Conklin, our state coordinator and director. With the tireless help of 70 plus volunteers who are dedicated to finding forever homes for displaced Weimaraners, we fostered and placed 68 dogs in 2006. We rely 100% on grants, fundraisers, private contributions, and adoption donations to care for the dogs currently in our rescue; all donations are welcome and needed. All of our rescues are spayed or neutered, currant on Rabies vaccination, heartworm tested and treated if necessary. They also receive monthly heartworm preventative and are microchipped before being placed. Weims entering our program are fostered with MWR for a minimum of two weeks. During this period the dogs are evaluated and temperament tested by Chris, who has over 23 years experience as an all breed dog trainer, and 17 years specializing in Weimaraner Behavior. We truly believe that by taking our time to get to know each dog as an individual, we can assure both the adoptive families and our Weims the best match for lifelong companionship. Our goal is to not only save Weims, but to find the perfect "forever home" for each dog. The time taken in choosing the right match means you will not only welcome your new Weim's distinctive personality, but will be able to enjoy it to the utmost. We are a proud member of Michigan Purebred Dog Rescue Alliance.Michigan Weimaraner Rescue, Inc. operates under the auspices of the Weimaraner Club of America Rescue Committee, according to guidelines established by the Weimaraner Club of America and the American Kennel Club Mission Statement: To find suitable placements, without profit, for adoptable Weimaraners in need that have been relinquished by individuals or organizations. To provide a source of public education of the Weimaraner breed and encourage responsible breeding practices and consumer education. Looking for A Reward?Foster homes have saved many lives over the years. A foster home is a loving home where pet can live until he or she is adopted. The need is especially great during the summer months and around the Holidays. You'll be helping a homeless Weim who may not otherwise have a chance. How uplifting to know YOU had an active part in saving the life of a homeless dog! Please call 866-GOT-WEIM and ask Chris for more information. The Weimaraners are counting on you!!
Our adoption process includes; Application, Phone Interview, Veterinarian Reference, and a Home Visit. All of this must be completed before you meet specific dogs that you are interested in adopting. Come Visit Us!
We are not a shelter; our dogs are in foster homes throughout Michigan, Northern Indiana and Northwest Ohio. We welcome you to come meet the breed if you're considering a Weim, but just not sure of the age or sex that you and your family are ready for. Call Chris @ 517-333-7015 to setup an appointment.
