Reuben's Room Guarantee

Any cat that has been adopted from Reuben's Room can be returned to the rescue at any time for any reason. Our cats are always welcome to come back "home".
All Reuben's Room adoptions start with a trial adoption period.

Reuben's Room Seniors Program

When a senior citizen adopts a cat from Reuben's Room and has to be absent from their home for a period of time we will bring our cat back to the rescue and provide love and care for the cat until the senior is able to move back home. Or, if a senior has to move to a nursing home or passes away, their family can bring our cat back to us and we will love and provide for that cat until it is adopted again. Because of our Seniors Program the assisted living units in this area are always happy to see their residents choose a cat from Reuben's Room Cat Rescue.

Where Our Adoptables Are Sheltered

Our cats are housed in a private homelike shelter (Reuben's Room). We also have cats at Pet Supplies Plus on Kalamazoo Avenue by 60th St. If you are interested in meeting and adopting a cat from our Reuben's Room shelter location, that can be arranged by contacting us and is by appointment only. Reuben's Room is not open to the public.

Once A Reuben's Room Cat
Always A Reuben's Room Cat

Any cat that is adopted from Reuben's Room cat rescue can be returned to the rescue at any time, for any reason. A Reubens Room cat will always be welcomed at the rescue. For that reason, we are always looking for sponsors for our cats.
Who We Are

Reuben's Room Cat Rescue is a non-profit cat sanctuary/rescue in the greater Grand Rapids Michigan area. Reuben's Room is an alternative cat rescue founded in 2003 by Jeanine Bucker. The purpose of the rescue is to help fill the need for re-homing domesticated cats who might otherwise be surrendered to a shelter where they may be euthanized. We adopt cats to both single people and families who have a track record of being responsible and loving companions, and who understand a commitment to an animal is for a lifetime. Please read about our special senior citizen program to the left of this text. There are many senior citizen assisted living centers that welcome our cats.
Any cats that come to Reuben's Room will stay with us until they are adopted or pass away. If a cat is a special needs cat it will remain with us. If you would like to sponsor a special needs cat check out our section below.
All of our precious adoptables are tested for feline leukemia and FIV. They have been spayed or neutered, and are up to date on any medical/dental needs. They have also been treated for fleas and parasites using Pfizer's Revolution and have been micro chipped for their safety and future identification. They are also tested, and if needed, treated for heartworms. Only after all of this has been done will we release our cat to their new home.
Our surrender and adoption fees do not come close to covering our costs. We are an all volunteer organization that operates and exists solely on those fees and donations from the public who believe in our mission. If you wish to help the cats in our care you may make a direct tax deductible donation by clicking on the Paypal logo below. Or if you prefer to send a check or money order, please send that to the address below.
Please make the check payable to Reuben's Room Cat Rescue. Please be sure to include your return address so that we can send you a receipt for your donation.

PLEASE NOTE: REUBEN'S ROOM DOES NOT ACCEPT KITTENS OR STRAY CATS. Our mission is to rehome domestic cats.

How to Sponsor a Reuben's Room Cat
Reuben's Room Cat Rescue is a small, private sanctuary/rescue that always has lots of love to spare, but often finds itself struggling to make ends meet. As a no-kill shelter any cat that has ever been a Reuben's Room Cat will have a place to stay until they pass away. Housing and caring for out cats that are no longer considered adoptable can get very expensive. So, we are looking for sponsors for those cats. There is no minimum amount to pledge, we will appreciate anything you pledge. So please take a moment, look at our cats, check out the cats that show special needs, and please consider sponsoring one or more of these great cats. Your pledge can be done via PayPal, or by check/money order sent to our post office box. Please indicate which cat (or cats) you would like to sponsor so that we can make sure your pledge goes towards the care of that cat (or cats). If you would like updates on the cat or cats you are sponsoring please indicate that when you make your pledge.

FEATURED CAT
We are looking for a home for a beautiful flame point Siamese named Slinky. Slinky is a wonderful cat who is having a very hard time adjusting to life in a rescue. The only home Slinky has ever known was a home where he was king of the castle. There were no other animals in his previous home, so Slinky just cannot understand why he should have to share space with the other cats. Slinky is a gorgeous cat that is perfect, he just needs another home where he can be king of the castle. If you can offer Slinky a home of his own, please consider adopting this great guy. For a little more information, and pictures of this gorgeous fella, check him out on our adoptable pets area.
Special Needs Featured Cats

CoCo Puff is an elegant black beauty with wonderful soft silky fur. He is a large guy who is very inquisitive and would just love to scope out your house. CoCo Puff is one of those cats that can quite easily amuse himself when his human companion is not available, but will also be ready to settle down and enjoy your company whenever you are ready. If you happen to be bored, CoCo Puff will also be more than happy to entertain you, just offer him a toy! But-CoCo puff does have a special need-this handsome guy stands up when he urinates, and, he will not share a litter box. If you have no other animals, and you want to bring this black beauty home you will need to pick up a large bin that has large walls on 3 sides. Meijers has the perfect solution in their craft section. Or, you could purchase a nice tall plastic bin and cut a hole in one side so that he could enter the bin, on one side, but the urine would remain in the bin.

Featured Senior Companion
This area will be used to feature one of our cats that would be perfect as a companion for a senior citizen. The cats featured here will be cats that are more laid back and more interested in keeping a senior company.

Fluffy is a 10 year old 2ft. declawed beauty. Fluffy is a gorgeous gal with a lot to offer to a senior. Fluffy was adopted to by a wonderful senior who had to send Fluffy back to us when health problems prevented her from caring for this wonderful cat. The senior assured us that Fluffy had been a wonderful companion to her, and she would never have surrendered her if she could still provided appropriate care. Fluffy is very outgoing and never gets tired of human companionship. She may be 10 years old, but she is 100% healthy, and should be able to provide several years of companionship for the next lucky adoptor. By the way, Fluffy is, well, fluffy! So if you are considering adopting this great gal, please keep in mind that she is going to need regular brushing. But that will not be a problem for Fluffy because she just loves being brushed! Check out her pictures on our Cats Available for Adoption pages.

Our "Young Guns" Are Almost Here!
Yes, it's true, Reuben's Room, the rescue that does not take in kittens, is currently in the process of getting several kittens up to date with all of their medical needs and then they will be available for adoption. All of these cute critters entered the rescue as kittens. But true to our mission, they will all be vet checked, spayed or neutered, declawed, had their shots and been microchipped before they are posted as available for adoption. Because Reuben's Room is run on a shoestring budget, not all of the kittens can be ready to go at the same time. So, by the time we get all of their work done, they are no longer little baby kittens, but rather really cute, cuddly, playful youngsters. So, if you are looking for a little scrapper who you can bring home and not have to worry about taking care of all those kittens needs, keep checking back because you are going to love what we have to offer!
UPDATE:Wow! The young guns are going fast! But keep an eye on our adoptable pet lists as we will soon be able to post some more!
ARE YOU TIRED OF THOSE INFOMERCIALS THAT PROMISE YOU
THE SUN, THE MOON, AND THE STARS?
But all you really end up with is a reality check? You know, the ones that promise you that what they are selling is the newest of the new, or the best of the best. Are you tired of those famous words "but wait, there's more!"? Or "just pay shipping and handling", and the cost of shipping and handling is more than the item itself. And of course there is the infamous "satisfaction quaranteed or your money back", good luck with that one! All of this will likely leave you with the feeling that you have been taken for a ride, and you probably have been. But Reuben's Room Cat Rescue and Sanctuary does not work like that. Reuben's Room will never say what we have to offer you is the newest of the new, or the best of the best. We will simply tell you that any cat you adopt from us will be a wonderful addition to your home. And there will be no "but wait there's more" because our adoption process is simple and easy with no hidden surprises. Plus, there is no shipping or handling fees! Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back? Yep! Our adoptions are never considered final until YOU say you are happy with your chosen cat, and if for some reason you do not find the cat that is right for you, then your money is returned to you.
And now for the first ever Reuben's Room infomercial (you knew that was coming didn't you?).
Are you tired of trying to stay warm on those cold winter days? Are you looking for a simple solution that will warm your heart and your home? Then check out the Reuben's Room Lap Warmers! Our lap warmers come in several different sizes and colors, so we can guarantee you that we have a lap warmer that will be just right for you. And, if for some reason you do not feel that your original lap warmer is the right one for you, we have a very generous return/exchange policy. If for some reason you are not able to find the right lap warmer, then you will get a full refund, no questions asked. Some of our best lap warmers would be Stella, Gus, Samatha, or Simone.
If you are looking for something a little bit larger than a lap warmer, may we suggest our bed warmers? We have several cats that would just love to nestle in and keep your warm while you sleep. Some of our bed warmers would be Fluffy, Mr. Tigger, Socks or Snow. Our wonderful bed warmers come with the same guarantee as our lap warmers, so feel free to give our lap and bed warmers a try.

GOOD NEWS!
Our first lap warmer/bed warmer has been adopted! Sweet little Stella has become a member of the George Devries family, and according to George, in addition to lap warmer and bed warmer, you can add heart warmer to this gals resume'.

DELTA PLEX ANIMAL EVENT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR March 31st through April 4th.
If you have not attended this event before, this is a yearly major animal extravaganza. There will be animals of all kinds, pony rides, food (of course!) and other activites and events. And of course plenty of vendors. Most of the area shelters will also be there. Reuben's Room will be in the same location that we have every year, so look for us there. If you are new to the event the people at the front door should be able to tell you where we are. We will, of course, have our usual wide variety of items available for purchase to help support the rescue. You can also take the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket to win one of the most amazing cat mountains you will ever see! Did you notice that I did not say cat "tree?" There is a reason for that. One of Reuben's Room strong supporters creates cat mountains (again, not cat trees) made to order for his customers. Every year he creates such a mountain for us so that it can be raffled off with the proceeds going to support Reuben's Room. So come visit our "booth" and learn more about us, pick up a few items for yourself or your favorite pet, and grab a raffle ticket or two. See you there!

MEET OUR NEW "TEACHING CAT"
Carlton was a resident of Reuben's Room that had been cruelly treated and set on fire by some kids "just for the fun of it." When Carlton came to the rescue, no one expected him to live, but live he did. Jeanine had always taken Carlton along with her when she visits classrooms and teaches kids about the care and love of an animal. With the loss of Carlton, Jeanine was trying to figure out how to carry on the message that Carlton taught kids. And then came Dexter!

Remember that commercial "Weebles Wobble but they don't fall down?" (If you are too young to remember-google "Weebles") Well Dexter wobbles, but unfortunately he also falls down-a lot. You see, Dexter has "Cerebellar Hypoplasia. You can learn all about Cerebellar Hypoplasia on the internet. This medical condition can cause several different medical problems. In Dexter's case, it has caused a severe coordination problem, and some interesting vision problems. There are several causes of cerebellar hypoplasia, for Dexter it appears that it was caused by a vaccine that his momma had while he was still in the womb. So, when Dexter walks he falls down, and then he gets up and tries again, and he falls down. Dexter does get where he is going sooner or later, it just takes him longer than most cats. And Dexter has a vision problem. It takes him longer to actually focus in on something, so he may look like he is staring into thin air when you talk to him, but give him time and he will be able to check you out, and maybe even wobble over to you. But other than these few little glitches, he is just fine. But best of all, Dexter is just one happy little guy. You see, he has always had these problems, so to him it is perfectly natural to have to work a whole lot harder to get things done. Dexter has no idea he is different. He can eat, drink, sleep and play just like the other cats. Well, maybe not quite like other cats because things can get pretty messy when he eats or drinks, but that just makes him even more loveable. He even uses the litter box like a good little boy. Ok, well, that can get pretty messy too, but at the least the little guy does use the litter box! Obviously steps and climbing can be a problem for Dexter, but we have that covered. Dexter is happily residing in our sanctuary room where there are no steps or other large objects for him to trip over.

Dexter was brought to Reuben's Room after he was abandoned by his owner and a caring neighbor took him in. When he first arrived we had no idea what was causing his erratic movements, but we did know that he was cute and adorable and a little winner! And now we know his medical problem, and we know that he can live a nice long "normal for him" life. And, we also plan on putting the little guy to work in the classroom. Even though Dexter is not available for adoption, we have posted pictures of this cute little fella on the "cats adopted from Reuben's Room now in forever homes" because he has been adopted by Reuben's Room and he probably IS in his forever home. Be sure to check out his pictures because it sure looks like Dexter is a happy little guy, and it even looks like he is smiling right at you!

Opportunities to Support Reuben's Room
HOW TO DONATE $50 TO REUBEN'S ROOM AT NO COST TO YOU
Capital One is sponsoring credit cards for non profit organizations. There is no catch, and no gimmicks, and we know it works because we have been getting the $50 checks. To donate $50 to Reubens Room all you have to do is apply for a Capital One Visa card, charge anything on it one time, then WAIT for your statement to come and pay that one time charge and bingo! we get $50! After that 1st charge you can cancel the card, or you can continue to use the card and Rebuen's Room will get a small portion of your purchases. If you choose to keep the card at the end of the year you will be charged a $35 fee, so be sure to weigh your options. Just think, if 5 people get the credit card for even one month Reuben's Room will get a check for $250! Think of all that kitty litter! And if 10 people get the credit card, that is $500! Wow, think of all that food! Remember, all you have to do is charge once, WAIT for the bill, and then pay the bill and cancel the card, pretty easy right? For more information please go to:www.CardLabConnect.com/reubensroomcatrescue. Thanks!

Reuben's Room is seeking a few responsible volunteers to add to our volunteer staff. Commitment is 3-6 hours a week to help clean cages, litter boxes, floors, feeding etc. Please note-we are not looking for someone to pet the cats, but rather someone willing to do "hands on" work. Experience in a vet clinic or with animals is a big plus. References required. Please contact Jeanine at 616-791-9696 and leave a message with your contact information.
Who doesn't like to eat? Culvers in Jenison frequently sponsors a fund raising event for Reuben's Room. Have dinner or get take out between 4-8pm and a percentage of sales goes to Reuben's Room. Reuben's Room volunteers will be happy to serve you. This is an easy and delicious way to help your favorite cause! It is also your chance to meet some of our volunteers and learn more about the rescue. Are you looking for a sweet loving companion? Or, how about a cute little bundle of energy? We will have information available to help you pick the perfect cat for you. Our next Culver Day is Wednesday, February 15th. The Culvers is located on Cottonwood Drive. See you there!

We have learned of another way our faithful supporters can help us out. Fresh Step has a program called "paw points". Whenever you purchase Fresh Step Cat Litter there will be the usual upc code on the back, but there will also be a code #. Reuben's Room can redeem those code #'s for free litter. For instance, right now I am looking at the back of a bag of litter, and there is the upc code, but there is also a code #-in this case FWXHR6GDW94C. Whenever you buy Fresh Step Cat Litter, please cut the area that has the upc and code #, and send them to us so that we can redeem them for free litter! That's right FREE LITTER! You know that stuff that Reuben's Room uses a lot-like bags and bags of it every week! So please, the next time you have to buy litter, think of us!
UPDATE: The rescue has just ordered 8 large boxes of Fresh Step litter thanks to all of you who are collecting Paw Points for us. Since it takes 4-10 weeks (yes, you read that right, 4-10 weeks!) hopefully that will be a nice Christmas Present for the rescue.
Another great way to help the rescue is gift cards from such places as Meijers, Target, or a pet store of your choice. This allows us to purchase food, medication, cleaning supplies, bedding, litter, and other necessities needed to continue our mission. We appreciate your generosity, large or small. We would not exist without your support.
Stop by Kentwood Cat Clinic, get your feline a catnip toy and help support Reuben's Room too! Julie Brille is an animal lover who creates catnip toys and sells them at the clinic and the proceeds go to local area shelters/rescues. It has been our experience that cats just LOVE these toys! Reuben's Room will be the lucky rescue again in the near future, keep checking here for the dates. Thanks Julie
D&W and Family Fare Days are back! Shop at D&W or Family Fare during our fundrasier days and give them our code #, which is 94700, and a portion of your bill will be donated to our rescue. Keep checking back for our next dates.
And Spartan is offering yet another way to help non-profits. It's free, easy, and fun! Ok, well, it's probably really not fun, but it is free and easy! Spartan Stores will pay non-profit organizations 2 cents for every Spartan UPC code collected in their behalf. Unfortunately, Spartan Stores will only take the UPC codes in batches of 1000, and lets face it, it is going to take a while to come up with that many UPC codes. But the good news is that Reuben's Room will still be around when you collect those batches of 1000! For more information regarding this program go to:www.spartanstores.com, then when the window opens click on "About Spartan Stores", and then click on "fund raising". Thanks to Sherry for letting us know about this program, and for starting us off with 2000 labels! On a side note-kinda wonder who has the wonderful job of counting all those upc codes! But hey, in today's economy, a job is a job right? So, let's do our part in keeping someone employed and get busy collecting those UPC codes!

A Special Thanks to those of you who do so much for us

To Dr. E.J. Jones of Schmitt's Animal Hospital in Walker www.schmittsanimalhospital.com Dr. Jones makes our veterinary care incredibly affordable, and has been available at all hours when we have especially difficult medical cases.

To Pet Supplies Plus for letting us show some of our precious adoptable cats at their store on Kalamazoo Avenue. Many adoptions have happened because of the people at Pet Supplies Plus.

To Sleepy Hollow Pet Cemetery www.sleepyhollowpc.com for sponsoring our ad in Cats and Dogs magazine. If you find yourself in need of burial services, please check out these wonderful, caring people.

To Rhonda Mitchell-Glanzer who donates handmade catnip pillow toys to our feline friends, and those at other shelters and rescues. If you are looking for a safe toy for your feline, check out her pillows at Harvest Health on Eastern near Burton. Rhonda uses the money she makes from her sales at Harvest Health to continue her mission of toys for the rescues (including the Animal Shelter where she delivers dozens of toys every month). Look for items labeled "Cat Toys Furever". The Reuben's Room cats are always happy when their new supply of pillows come in! These are really great toys!

Thank you to all of you who work behind the scenes with us. While we cannot list all of you, please rest assured that whatever you do for the rescue does make a difference and is greatly appreciated.

To all of our partners in our mission, you can take pride in knowing your efforts have changed the lives of many cats.
