The Battle Creek Animal Shelter has become a no kill facility for owner surrender
and strays as room permits. We have helped
17,000 plusdogs and cats in the eight years that we have been open. We run on a skeleton budget needing only 30 to 40 thousand per year (most shelters have an operating budget of hundreds of thousands per year) to keep our doors open.
We try to help all animals, by placing them in a home that meets their unique needs,
and only euthanize for severe Problems (ie unfixable medical
problems that are causing the animal suffering). We do not euthanize for things that are treatable like many shelters
do these days! We do the best we can for the animals with the funds that we have
available and our volunteers keep our shelter very nice and clean. We are always
willing to take animals from kill shelters when we have room and have saved countless
dogs and cats from being sold for research or being put to sleep, just by taking
them in and giving them a chance at a home. Our volunteers work tirelessly with
fundraising events and adopt a thons, and when the shelter was built it was built
for the animals not a fancy shelter to impress PEOPLE! If you can make any donation

Sponsors Needed
We are in need of people who will help sponsor pets, this would involve paying for their medical care to get them ready for adoption, spay/neuter, shots etc. If you want to help the animals but can't necessarily adopt one right now this is your chance. Contact the shelter for more info.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption aplication is very straight forward and most pets can go home the same
day!
Courtesy Posts
If you have a pet you can no longer keep and need to find a new home for them we can help! If you would like to keep your pet until you find a new home for them we will be happy to do a courtesy post on our Petfinder site. We will post their picture for you with your contact information on their page. Please ask at the shelter for more details.
Volunteers Needed
If you are a responsible pet owner and an animal lover with time on your hands, please come in and talk to us about volunteering at the shelter. We can always use more people to help with adoptions, cleaning, grooming, socializing animals etc. If you are looking for a way to help the animals this is it!
Foster Homes Needed
We are always looking for foster homes to help us when we have very young puppies or kittens, or injured animals,or animals that need to be socialized more, or that are too scared in a shelter setting. Please come in and talk to us if you are interested in helping in this way.
