Who We Are
We are a rescue organization designed to bring families and well mannered rescue dogs together. In cooperation with Unleashed Dog Training we are able to foster and train former shelter dogs for placement into new homes.
We believe that every family deserves to have a mannerly pet, a dog that doesn't jump up, pull on the leash or embarrass them out in public. Sounds nice, huh? Well it is, but that doesn't mean there's no effort involved for the new owners. Our dogs up for adoption may be trained, but they still need guidance and leadership from their owner. That's why we also provide a free training session and unlimited email support for the life of your dog. Adopters will also receive a %20 discount on services from Unleashed Training.
How do I adopt?
So, you've seen a dog that you'd like to meet, what's the next step?
Email us at info@unleashedtraining.net to inquire on the dog you're interested in. Please answer the following questions in the email.
Your full name
Do you have any other pets?
Do you have any children? (if yes, what ages)
Do you own or rent your home?
Why do you want this dog?
Are you ready to adopt, or just browsing?
When are you available to see this dog? (be specific on the day/time, we will try our best to accommodate your request)
We get many, many inquires each day and we will NOT RESPOND to any emails that fail to answer these simple questions. If your only sentence in the email is 'how much is this dog' or 'is this one still available' please don't expect a response from us.
Emails that answer the above questions will receive a response within 24 hours in order to set up a day and time for you to meet the dog.
During the meeting:
Please come prepared to make a decision regarding adoption one way or the other at the time of the meeting. This means that if you are not able to decide without input from your husband, wife, partner, children, whatever, then please bring them along!
Adoption fees
$275 for puppies, $175 for dogs over the age of five months old. These fees help to pay for food, vet care, and the training that the dog receives.
In the rare occurance that a puppy is un-altered at the time of adoption a spay/neuter contract will be required. The adopter will then recieve a $50 refund once proof of altering is sent to us.
What do the dogs learn before adoption?
- Sit
- Down
- Heel (no pulling)
- Off (no jumping)
- Crate Training
- Housebreaking
All dogs in our program are temperament tested. This means that we DO NOT adopt out aggressive animals. No growling, no biting, no snapping, no nothing. You should be able to handle your dog, clip his nails, take the food dish away, etc. without having to worry about being snapped at or bitten. Our dogs up for adoption have good temperaments and should do wonderfully in homes with children and/or other pets.
We only foster a small amount of dogs at a time because we feel quality is more important then quantity. We cannot save them all, but we can make a difference in the lives of a few select dogs and new owners.
What vet care do they receive before adoption?
Vaccinations
Spay neuter
Deworming
Where do these dogs come from?
Most of our dogs up for adoption have come from a kill shelter in or around Michigan. These are dogs that would have otherwise been destroyed had someone not taken them. Sometimes we will take in a owner turn in if the dog passes our temperament test and we have the room. Puppies are rare here, but we do foster the occasional litter.
Don't they have "issues" if they came from a shelter?
This is a common myth! Shelter dogs often end up there though no fault of their own. Their owners may have been moving and unable to keep them, there may have been allergies or even just no time or willingness to care for the dog anymore. Unfortunately many loving, wonderful dogs end up in shelters everyday for those reasons.
Got questions about your dog or cat? Having problems and need some quick answers?
www.goodpaws.org is a wonderful pet training and behavior website & message board. Someone there will be sure to point you in the right direction.
PLEASE NOTE: Posting animals on a web page, public media outlet (printed, televised, or other), or showing at a public location does not mean an OFFER, but an invitation to apply to adopt an animal. We reserve the right to reject any application for any reason that is not against public policy such as national origin, nationality, race etc. Sending in an pre-adoption questionnaire or coming to the adoption showings does not give the prospective adopter/visitor the right on any of our animals nor does it create for us an obligation to adopt out to that person any animal. We try to place our animals in the home best suited to their needs. We cannot be held responsible for any health problems should they show up after the adoption. Thank you.
