Who We Are |
The Southgate Animal Shelter is operated by the City Of Southgate. The shelter is modestly sized and primarily run by the dedicated Animal Control Officer Aaron Bertera. We also have a small, but great group of volunteers whose names are Patti, Julie, Jen, and Jamie. They do an awesome job at getting the animals adopted!!! The Officers goals are to care for Southgate's homeless animal population in the most humane and compassionate manner possible. It is also their goal to find the best homes possible for those animals that are adoptable. |
News |
BOTTLE DRIVE!! April 11 through May 31, 2012, the volunteers of the Southgate Animal Shelter are collecting cans and bottles. All money will go to a medical fund to help get the animals the medical treatment they need. What does that mean, you ask? It means, for example, that the money will go to a beagle with heartworm, a cat whose tail had to be amputated, and a kitten that needs to see a neurologist, and so much more. Cans and bottles can be dropped off at the shelter (14717 Schafer Ct., Ph: 734-246-1328) OR picked up. Please call Julie at 734-286-8114 to schedule a pickup time. Thank you from us and the animals! $30 SPAY/NEUTER offered by VCA Southland to any animal adopted from the Southgate shelter. Also . . .Rabies: $16 FREE De-worming Heartworm test (required): $25 |
Adopting a friend |
The animals that we get into the shelter stay 5 days prior to being put up for adoption. Most of the animals we receive have no previous history prior to impound. Southgate Animal Control Officers do their best to observe each animal's temperament before it is put up for adoption. It is our desire to see that every adoptable pet finds a good home. However, our space is very limited, and sometimes it is necessary to humanely euthanize. Please hurry if you are interested in adopting one of our pets. And remember to spay or neuter your pets because EVERY animal deserves a loving, permanent home!!!Please Read: The Southgate Animal Shelter cannot guarantee the breed, age, personality, or temperament of an animal. What is listed is how the animal acts at the shelter and may change when entering a new home.Adoption Fees (Cash Only):All cats & kittens are $55. They are spayed/neutered, combo tested, and have their rabies/distemper vaccinations

We could always use gift cards to Wal-Mart, Pet Supplies Plus, or PetsMart. There are certain items sold there that we need, such as Frontline for cats and small- to medium-sized dogs, PetArmor (available at Walmart), Comfortis or Advantage, and miscellaneous other items. If you could help, it would be deeply appreciated by us and our furry temporary residents!

Directions to shelter: Schafer Court is located off of Eureka Road, between Zubor and Dick Genthe dealerships and across from Dots and TJ Max. Once you pull onto Schafer Court, head straight. Go past the Department of Public Services building and head around the corner, following the sign on the fence that says "Animal Shelter." We are the small building on the right.
