Who We Are:
The Allegan County Animal Shelter is a small shelter in a rural area. We are a great place to find a family pet or companion. Animals find their way here as strays as well as being owner surrenders. Sadly, due to having limited space, we do unfortuantely have to euthanize some animals. If you suspect your animal may be up at the shelter and do not see him/her on our petfinder list, you should come down and check the shelter itself.
Our Facility:
We get in many wonderful animals on a day to day basis. Many people are surprised at the wonderful dogs and cats that become available here at the shelter. Some of the pets that find their way here are purebred and others are a unique one of a kind mix. Although our Petfinder list is updated weekly, the best way to find a new or lost friend is to come down to the shelter. We would rather see every adoptable pet be adopted into a loving home. The shelter hours are 8:00 A.M-11:00 AM Monday- Friday.
When you see a pet listed on Petfinder which you might be interested in adopting, please act on it as soon as you see it. This will give you the best chance to adopt the pet and will give the pet the best chance of attaining a home. We encourage that you take the time to review the responsiblity of taking on a new furry friend and familiarize yourself with the type of animal you are choosing.
Please spay and neuter all pets you own. This will help cut down on the endless number of homeless animals that come into shelters everyday!!
The Adoption Process:
Come to the shelter and fill out an adoption form. You will also need to have your vet fill out a prepaid spay/neuter from before you can take your pet home. (This does not apply if the pet is already spayed or neutered). The animal will be held for you for 3 days while you get this form filled out
Adoption fees: $25.00 for a dog
$15.00 for a cat

If you are having a hard time contacting somebody about an animal in the shelter, it is best to leave a message with you name, number, and the pet's ID number. Your call will be returned as soon as possible.
Please call or email if you are driving a long distance to reach our shelter as the officers are often out of the building when the shelter is closed. We can do our best to arrange a time to meet with you.
