What we do
LENAWEE HUMANE SOCIETY ADOPTION POLICY
Our adoption fee is $60.00 for spayed or neutered animals. If the animal you wish to adopt is not neutered or spayed, Michigan law requires us to collect a refundable $25.00 deposit in addition to our adoption fee of $60.00. When you have the animal sterilized and bring in the sterilization form signed by your veterinarian, we refund your $25.00 deposit within two weeks. You can also choose to donate the deposit back to the shelter for the care of our animals.?
Our adoption fee includes microchipping and all annual vaccinations and tests, with the exception of rabies vaccination. It does not include spaying or neutering of the animal you wish to adopt. This must be done at your own expense by your own veterinarian. We do not have a licensed veterinarian here at the shelter, therefore neutering, spaying, and rabies vaccines must be done by your veterinarian.
In order to adopt a pet from LHS, you must meet the following conditions:
-You must have your landlord's permission to have an animal if you rent your home or property.
To adopt/foster a dog:
All Animals presently owned by you must be up-to-date on ALL annual vaccinations and tested for heartworms. If the animal you wish to adopt is NOT neutered or spayed, the DOGS currently in your household must be neutered or spayed
To adopt/foster a cat:
All Animals presently owned by you must be up-to-date on ALL annual vaccinations and tested for feline leukemia and FIV. If the animal you wish to adopt is NOT neutered or spayed, the CATS currently in your household must be neutered or spayed.
Please remember that one of LHS' goals is to control pet overpopulation and prevent so many animals from becoming unwanted.
Please allow 30-45 minutes for the adoption process and verification to be completed. We apologize for the length of time that is needed to complete this procedure, but we hope to ensure that our animals are placed in a safe, responsible home.
Please do not ask us to begin an adoption after 4:30pm . We are unable to reach most veterinarians at this late hour for animal verifications.
