Adoption fees include::
All animals have been seen by Vet, is spay/neuter for animals that are old enough, has received all shots, including lyme disease, has been treated with front-line for fleas, been wormed, as been given a heart worm test and preventative heartworm medication for dogs. All cats have been tested for FIV/FeLuk., All dogs are micro-chipped, and ID tags are provided for all cats. With your adoption, you also get a coupon book containing many of the things you'll need for your new pet, including food, toys, treats, and more.
Our adoption fees vary somewhat depending on the medical care each animal needs,however they do include all veterinary costs, include an office visit. The adoption fee ranges between $275.00-$350.00 for dogs and $100-$150 for cats. Remember, all of our animals will be protected with Frontline/Advantage and be on Heartguard. If your new pet is too young to be spayed or neutered, a deposit will be required; it will be returned to you when you send us a copy of the spay/neuter certificate from your vet. Your adoption fee is a donation. "Remember each rescue animal has special needs when looking for a new home, and each animal needs to be enrolled in a doggy training class to make his/her adjustment easier this can take time to happen."
Our adoption process is fairly simple. First, you'll need to fill out an application, including vet references and information on current and previous pets in your household. A home visit and a Vet Check is required, depending on the needs of the animal, a couple of visits with our animal at your home will be required to ensure a good family/pet fit, before you can permanently take your pet home. When your adoption is approved, you'll need to sign an adoption contract which includes a provision that if for any reason the adoption doesn't work out, or if at any time in the future you must give up your new pet, you must bring him or her back to us. It is also helpful for the new family to bring pictures of your backyard for dogs, to again aiding us to ensure a good and permanent family fit. Please remember if you want a family member to adopt the animal you adopted from us, we need to transfer the animal onto a new adoption contract, or we will take the animal back into our program.
We exist solely on donations and volunteers. Monetary donations are always welcome and may be tax deductible too - see your accountant for more info.
If you're interested in helping with our adoption days, or in fostering animals, please contact Donna for more information.
Long term, we'd like to create a sanctuary - a place where rescued animals can be brought on a moment's notice, and where they can stay long term if they are older animals or in need of long term medical care before their adoption. Read more about the sanctuary here!
OUR MISSION is to provide a safe haven for unwanted animals, and to provide those animals with forever homes through adopt-a-pet events. We educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering to help reduce the animal over-population, and help low-income people in Detroit with our outreach program by helping provide dog and cat food, dog houses, hay, and finding low-cost spay and neutering programs these families. We are not a shelter - our animals are fostered in homes before they go to adopt a pet sites to be adopted.
