Who We Are
H.E.A.D.S. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization, which is operated by all volunteers.
Our main goal is to end the needless euthanization of homeless animals in the Downriver area.
We hope to accomplish this by:
Improving conditions of local animal shelters.
Finding permanent, loving homes for adoptable animals.
Educating the public on the importance of spaying or neutering animals to help control the pet population.
Adopting a friend
H.E.A.D.S. does not have a shelter (we are all volunteers), however, our organization has been very fortunate to participate in the PetSmart Charities Adoption Program.
Many of our feline friends reside in the Adoption Center at PETsMART, located at 23470 Allen Rd in Woodhaven, Michigan. Our other furry friends are in the care of foster homes. Pictures of all animals currently available for adoption are on "Our Pet List".
Our adoption process . . .
Requires the prospective adopter to complete a H.E.A.D.S. Questionnaire which is used to determine the compatibility of the adopter(s) and adoptee. Questionnaires are reviewed and prospective adopters are screened on a first come, first serve basis at our PETsMART Adoption Fairs.
Requires that all members of the household (including canine members) be present so that each member can interact with the prospective adoptee. Exceptions are allowed on a case by case basis.
H.E.A.D.S. reserves the right to contact the prospective adopter's veterinarian and/or landlord, if applicable, prior to approval of adoption.
Our adoption fees are as follows:
Altered felines (spayed or neutered) are $100 - $150.00 (cash only). For animals that are too young to be altered, a check in the amount of $25.00 will be reimbursed to the adopter upon proof of spay or neuter.
Altered canines (spayed or neutered) are $175.00 (cash only). For animals that are too young to be altered, a check in the amount of $25.00 will be reimbursed to the adopter upon proof of spay or neuter.
Feline adoption fees include feline leukemia/immunodeficiency virus testing, RCP vaccination(s), Rabies vaccination and parasite prevention medications, as applicable.
Canine adoption fees include heartworm testing, DHLPPC vaccination(s), Rabies vaccination and parasite prevention medication, as applicable.
Adoption fees are utilized to assist in offsetting the costs of veterinary care which is provided to all of our animals.
We hold Adoption Fairs at PETsMART every Saturday, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, as well as Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Other adoptions may be done on an appointment basis. However, because our organization is comprised of all volunteers, appointments are not always possible.
