Things To Remember

99.9% of dogs we get in are ADULTS.
If you're interested in a dog with pending status you may still apply to adopt.

Please pay attention to the symbols Petfinder provides us. They denote whether a dog is compatible with kids under 5,other dogs, cats. If one of these symbols is next to the dogs name - that means they are NOT compatible!
We DO adopt out-of-state. We DO NOT deliver your new pet to you.. We are located in Michigan's beautiful upper peninsula.
It is up to you to come here to pick up your new friend.
If you are unable to travel to Munising,MI. to pick up your new friend then do not apply to adopt with us.
All persons wanting to adopt one of our Pekes MUST submit an application to adopt with references included.
Please be aware we receive multiple applications for each dog, and choose the home which we feel will be the best for the dog and the family.
There is a NON-REFUNDABLE adoption fee ranging from $150.00 to $225.00 to help cover vet expenses incurred by each dog. This donation is not negotiable.

Surrendering owners and rescues must sign a release form before we will take the peke into our program. No exceptions!
We REQUIRE that you keep one of our I.D. tags on your newly adopted peke until you have one in place with your own information on it.
WE DO NOT HOLD DOGS for adopters. This means that while you may have been approved to adopt a specific dog , until you have paid the adoption donation, signed the contract , AND picked up your new family member they are still considered available for adoption. We expect that you will pick your new friend up in a timely manner.
Please be aware that our beautiful Pekes are NOT perfect. Some may have accidents from time to time. Some may not jump into your arms with loving gratitude.....at first. If a dogs information states that their new family will have to continue in their potty and/or leash training........then that is exactly what it means. The dog needs continued training in these areas. If it is a perfect dog you are looking for, we kindly suggest that you buy a stuffed toy from your local department store.
Please fill out our online Adoption Application BEFORE phoning us, as we need it for reference when speaking with you. Filling it out will give you an opportunity to hear about dogs before they are even featured online. We request that applications be filled out by persons of at least 21 years of age. If you want to visit our Pekes, please e-mail us to set up an appt. before you come, as we are NOT a public animal shelter. Thank you!

Who We Are
We are Pekingese lovers who foster and re-home homeless Pekingese. Each Peke is checked by a veterinarian, brought up to date on shots, neutered, and a dental done if necessary. They are also tested for heartworm -- then put on preventative. We have no shelter, so the dogs are kept in volunteer foster homes until placed. This gives us a better chance to evaluate the dog in a home setting before placement. We receive no federal or state funding, only donations. Since we are run by volunteers only, all donations go to the care and feeding of our Pekes. We also provide education to prospective adopters and work with Peke owners to educate them about thier dogs. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out our adoption/volunteer form. We are always in need of foster homes.
Surrendering Your Peke To Rescue

Michigan Pekingese Rescue is currently taking only pekingese breed dogs into our program.
Please check back weekly to see if this status changes.
When you surrender your peke to rescue we ask that you provide us with their vet records - ie., shot records, and any other medical information you may have.
You will likely need to aid in the transportation of your pet to a rescue volunteer.
We do not ask a surrender fee but appreciate any donations which will help us in our efforts to rehome your pet.
Be very forthcoming as to any behavior or medical issues your peke may have.
If you have or know of a Pekingese in need of rehoming, please contact us at: khazel@up.net
