URGENT FOSTER HOMES NEEDED!!
We here at the Animal Welfare Society try to rescue as many precious animals from the kill shelters and gas chamber pounds before its too late for our furry friends. We do not believe any animal should be sitting in a cold dark kill shelter simply because a negligent owner threw them away like garbage. Therefore, we are calling on all our fellow animal lovers. We need foster homes for these animals immediately. The more foster homes we have, the more lives we can save. Please sign up to be a foster home today. We provide you with all the supplies you need. You just supply the love and warmth of a safe home for an unwanted puppy, dog, cat or kitten. Thank you for your support and for your interest in saving a homeless animal.

HOW TO FIND A LOST PET
Act Fast! Animal shelters in Michigan are required to keep lost animals without identification (No Collar) only four days and with identification (Collar with Dog License & Rabies Tag) only seven days before adopting out or euthanizing (we do not euthanize) the animal. Here is what you can do to locate a lost pet.
Come to the Animal Welfare Society shelter to file a lost report – do not just call. We are located at 27796 John R, between 11 and 12 Mile Roads in Madison Heights. If you live in Madison Heights, you may also wish to check with the Madison Heights Pound located at 801 Ajax Drive.
Go to the shelter(s) as often as possible. This is especially important if your pet is a mixed breed and thus difficult to describe. Although the shelter staff tries their best to screen all animals that come to them, the owner is the best identification resource.
Check neighbor's yards, both front and back. If you've lost a cat, ask neighbors to check their basements, garages, and cars.
Check with-in a radius of 8-10 miles of where your pet became lost. Animals will typically be found close to where they live.
Talk to as many people as possible. Ask if they have seen your pet. Let them know that you are concerned.
Search for your pet especially in the early morning hours (3am - 5am) when it is quiet. Your pet may be able to hear you calling and you may be able to hear their sounds or movement.
Set up a temporary comfort station (provide a bed, food, and water) near the area your pet was lost, to encourage your pet to stay in the area if he or she returns while you are gone.
Alert your postal carrier.
Put a "Lost" ad in area newspapers. Place an ad on Craiglist.com and search their ads for found pets. You may also search on petfinder.com.
Distribute posters that include a description of your pet, where he or she was lost, your phone number, a photo of the animal, and a reward.
If you live in a city other than Madison Heights, check with the local police and/or pound in your city. You should also check with “county” pounds such as Oakland County Animal Control, Macomb County Shelter and Detroit Animal Control.
Check the "Lost and Found" section of area newspapers every day.
Check your neighborhood veterinary clinics, in the event your injured pet was taken to one of them.
*Please note, there will be a fee for reclaiming your pet.

Who We Are
The Animal Welfare Society is an adoption network committed to finding homes for companion animals. We are a no-kill 501(c)(3) organization, and we place animals of all ages into loving homes. We have been in business since 1982! We opened our own shelter in May, 2007. However, we still rely on a network of volunteer foster homes and owners to hold onto their pets until adopted. The Animal Welfare Society strives to educate the community about responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay/neuter. We also offer an indigent pet food program.
ADOPTING A FRIEND - SORRY, WE DO NOT SHIP PETS. WE ADOPT TO MICHIGAN RESIDENTS ONLY. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY FOR AN ANIMAL IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN -- NO EXCEPTIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING.
