Our Featured Pet...
We need Great Dane foster homes!! We have several dogs coming into rescue, would you like to help?
Please allow me to explain why we adopt to Maine and New Hampshire only! We never place a dog without doing a home visit to get to know the family and we are unable/unwilling to travel further. We track our dogs for the life of the dog, it would be too time consuming to do that if our dogs lived hundreds of miles away. Many states require us to have special (expensive) permits and licenses to work in their state and we prefer to spend our money on vet care and quality food for our rescue dogs. We are always available to help our adopters if they need it and we wouldnít be able to provide that service.
Thereís never a week that goes by that we donít receive a plea from another state. We all believe we are the best pet owners, we have the best yard, our kids are the best with dogs, etc. Our board has debated this issue several times and we always agree that we will not change our policy. Please understand that we do this for a reason and donít ask us to do it for you!

Legislative sentiment HLS 1101 has been issued by the 123rd Maine Legislature, on the 14th of March 2008, at the State capitol, in Augusta, Maine, recognizing Betti and Roger Curran, founders of CMGDR, for their work in helping animals. Introduced by Representative Kerri Prescott of Topsham, and co-sponsored by Senator Paula Benoit of Sagadahoc County and Representative Carol Grose of Woolwich, the sentiment states in part:

Who We Are
Coastal Maine Great Dane Rescue is a small, home-based rescue group, operating out of Topsham, Maine, and serving Maine and New Hampshire.
Senior dogs hold a special place in our hearts, and we encourage you to consider them for adoption. We'll be happy to talk to you about the many benefits of our older friends!!
We are an all-volunteer group, and welcome your interest in fostering dogs as they become available for adoption to their forever homes, or volunteering in any way you can.
E-mail or call us at the contacts listed below.
Adopting a friend
The process of adopting a Great Dane from CMGDR begins with filling out an adoption application. Just e-mail or telephone us at the contacts listed below, and we will send you the application form, in Word or Works format. Fill it out as completely as possibly, and from the information you provide us, concerning your family makeup, lifestyle, dog experience, preferences (if any) of the dog's age, sex, behavior (passive, playful, special needs, etc.), we will do our very best to match your situation with the dog that will be your "forever" pet. Personal and veterinary reference checks are necessary, and we will also do a home visit to personally assess your situation and the environment in which we will be placing a Dane to be your family's faithful and loving companion. We take these placements seriously, and we strive to make it the last time these dogs will have to adjust to a new home. Since we are a home-based rescue, and not a shelter, it is not possible to "drop in and visit" with any dogs we may currently have in foster care.
