Miss Honey is a wonderful 12 year old bay Paso Fino cross gaited mare who was placed with us by the State of Maine Animal Welfare Program in December of 2006, a victim of prior abuse and neglect. Since then, she has blossomed into a very trainable, smart horse with unlimited potential! In spite of being blind in one eye, Honey has done very well with saddle training and even competed successfully in her first show against "regular" horses last fall. She placed in 13 out of 14 classes, even in trail, barrels and jumping classes, in spite of having never been trained specifically for those events! She is gaited, sound, healthy and super smart. **** UPDATE: Honey has been adopted! ****
We currently have 10 horses, but none are ready for adoption at this time. Check back for updates!
News
Spirit of Hope Farm Equine Shelter & Rescue is very excited about joining PetFinder.com and we hope this partnership will help us place more deserving equines into loving homes! We at SOHF are also very excited about our upcoming summer program which will employ the animals on the farm in teaching kindness, caring and empathy to at-risk adolescents! This program is duly aimed at both preventing the animal abuse and neglect we see every day and at helping give hurting kids the healing power of hope.
Who We Are
Spirit of Hope Farm is a rescue for equines in beautiful Winterport, Maine. Our farm is home to horses and ponies that have survived horrible neglect and abuse but find sanctuary with us throughout their recover and rehabilitation. Our goal is to provide excellent care while they are here but recognize that all horses need a family of their own and should not be selfishly warehoused, languish in dry lots, or be left forgotten in the backyard. We dearly hope to find wonderful, permanent, loving homes of their own where they will be loved and properly cared for or provide comfort and love until they must be laid to rest. Please visit our website at Spirit of Hope Farm.
Adopting a friend
An adoption application is required, along with veterinary, farrier, and a personal reference to adopt a horse from Spirit of Hope Farm. A site visit to the adopter’s home may be required as well. No horse will be adopted out to anyone under 18 years of age. Adopters must be willing to come interact with the horse at least once prior to requesting adoption so that we can evaluate the suitability of the match. No adoptions will be granted prior to this visit. However, anyone interested in completing the application is invited to contact us. We are happy to discuss the adoption process and/or pre-screen interested parties prior to their making the trip to the farm. We try to make our adoption process fair to adopters but it is also important for us to do our best to prevent more abuse or neglect of these horses that have already been through so much. We appreciate your understanding and thank you for considering bringing one of our wonderful equines into your life!
