We contract with 14 area towns to provide 24-hour service to their animal control officers whose unfortunate duty it is to bring in our region’s lost, mistreated, or feral cats and dogs.
We offer humane education and animal welfare programs as well as animal care and training classes.
We provide quality food, grooming, medical attention, and love for those animals left in our care. We euthanize only for severe behavioral or medical problems and only after all other avenues have been exhausted. We facilitate the return of lost pets to their owners, provide foster care for pregnant, injured or ill animals, and facilitate responsible adoptions.
We thank you for considering an adoption through the Coastal Humane Society and will do everything we can to ensure the perfect match between you and your new family member!
All our animals are spayed or neutered, appropriately tested for diseases, up to date on all vaccinations and come with plenty of input from caring and knowledgeable staff technicians. Call 207-725-5051, visit our website at www.coastalhumanesociety.org, or e-mail us at info@coastalhumanesociety.org.
We offer for sale high quality dog and cat foods and litter, a complete selection of safety collars, leashes, harnesses and Gentle Leader® head collars, and a great assortment of toys for your new feline or canine friend. Proceeds from these sales help support our mission.
Feline Fee Waived
From October 20 through November 21, Coastal Humane Society will waive the adoption donation for any cat over the age of one year! We are still in the midst of an influx of kittens because of the delay in and length of this year’s kitten season. In order to create space to properly care for these little ones, we need to find suitable homes for our older cat population. Cats over the age of one may be adopted with an approved application on file with us. Donations at the time of adoption are always welcome!
Canine Adoptions
Change in adoption donation rates effective November 1, 2007
Coastal Humane Society microchips all canines at no cost to our adopters. As a courtesy to our adoptive families, we will begin registering all our canines with Home Again microchipping services at the time of adoption. Effective Thursday, November 1, the adoption rate for canines will change to $165. The increase in adoption donation will cover our cost to register each pet and activate the microchip for our adopted pets.
Canine Obedience Training
Canine obedience training classes will begin anew in November. A six-week session will begin on Monday, November 5 for six consecutive Mondays. A second six-week session will begin Wednesday, November 7 for six consecutive Wednesdays. Participants may complete an application to attend one of the two six-week sessions by contacting Coastal Humane Society at 725-5051 or logging on our website www.coastalhumanesociety.org and completing an application there. The $85 registration fee is dedicated to the care of the animals at the shelter. All shelter alumnae may be registered for a fee of $45. Classes are open to any dog age six months or older.
