Friends of Feral Felines (FFF) believes that all cats have inherent value and worth. Such a belief requires that we work toward relieving the stresses that overpopulation and abandonment place on feral and homeless cats. To accomplish this FFF, is committed to:
Humanely trapping, spaying (female)/neutering (male), and returning feral cats to their established colonies.
Finding safe and compassionate alternative homes for feral cats that cannot be returned to their place of rescue.
Placing adoptable cats in patient, nurturing homes when they demonstrate a temperament that is compatible with human cohabitation.
Creating a humane quality of life by providing a reliable and responsible level of care for feral cat colonies in southern Maine.
Providing medical care for sick and injured cats.
Sharing our expertise and experience with other individuals or organizations.
Educating our community about the benefits of its companion animals and the peril that these animals endure if allowed to procreate indiscriminately.
Who We Are
Friends of Feral Felines, which organized in 1993, is an all-volunteer network of individuals who work to improve the lives of feral, abandoned & stray cat colonies in the southern Maine area.
When we become aware of a colony, we assess the health and safety of the cats. If they are in a safe location with a reliable feeder and adequate shelter, we spay/neuter, test for disease, inoculate and return them to their familiar environment. The feeder is responsible for monitoring their health and we provide needed veterinary treatment and follow-up vaccinations.
We remove kittens and friendly cats for adoption, and take ill or injured cats for diagnosis and treatment.
Where it is unsafe or we are unable to return the cats to their environment, we try to relocate them to barns or other sanctuaries. We attempt to domesticate each cat for adoption into permanent homes but it is often impossible to tame feral cats to live comfortably in a household setting.
We spay/neuter and provide rabies shots through discounted veterinary services. We test for feline leukemia and AIDS and humanely euthanize any cats testing positive.
We welcome contributions of time, arts & crafts, money, ideas, supplies and moral support. Friends of Feral Felines is a member of Alley Cat Allies, a national feral cat network.
Friends of Feral Felines has been a non-profit Section 501(c)(3) organization since 1998. This makes all donations by our supporters a deductible exemption on your yearly tax burden.
Adopting a Barn Cat
We need cat lovers with barns or sheds to take unadoptable, non-domesticated cats rescued from the streets. These cats have led harsh lives until now and we want them to live in peace and security for the remainder of their days. They’re all tested, spayed/neutered & vaccinated. We’ll provide help in retrapping & transportation for inoculations and if injured. You provide nutritious food, water and the shelter these cats need. This is the last chance for these animals. This solution will work anywhere in the world so if you want to help homeless, feral and abandoned cats in your area, find the group in your vicinity dedicated to helping these most needy of cats and offer your barn as a permanent shelter. Thank You.
