FoFF's mission is to humanely reduce the number of feral cats in southern Maine communities through trapping, neutering, and then returning them to their colonies (a method called Trap-Neuter-Return or TNR). In time, the colonies' populations shrink due to lack of reproduction. We provide the colonies with food and water regularly and monitor them for new, sick, or injured members who need medical attention. We also find barn homes for some of the cats, and we foster and socialize kittens to prepare them for adoption. Our efforts include public education and fundraising to support the ongoing need for food and medical care. To learn much more about FoFF, please visit our web site Who We AreFoFF is an all-volunteer network of people dedicated to animal welfare. We were founded in 1993 and are a member of Alley Cat Allies, a national feral cat network. How FoFF Is FundedFoFF became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1998. All donations are much needed, greatly appreciated — and tax-deductible. We welcome contributions of not only money, but also volunteer time, arts and crafts, ideas, supplies, and moral support. To donate to FoFF and learn how you can volunteer, please visit our web site How We WorkWhen we learn of a feral colony, we assess the health and safety of the cats. If they're in a safe location with a reliable feeder and adequate shelter, we spay/neuter, test for disease, inoculate and return them to their familiar environment. The feeder is responsible for monitoring their health, and we provide needed veterinary treatment and follow-up vaccinations. We remove kittens and friendly cats for adoption and take ill or injured cats for diagnosis and treatment. Where it is unsafe or we are unable to return the cats to their environment, we try to relocate them to barns or other sanctuaries. We attempt to domesticate each cat for adoption into permanent homes, but it is often impossible to tame feral cats to live comfortably in a household setting. We spay/neuter and provide rabies shots through discounted veterinary services. We test for feline leukemia and AIDS and humanely euthanize any cats who test positive. To learn much more about FoFF, please visit our web site Feral Cats Make Great Barn CatsWe need cat lovers with barns or sheds to take unadoptable, non-domesticated cats rescued from the streets. These cats have led harsh lives, and deserve to live in peace and security. This is the last chance for these animals, and they can help control the rodent population in your barn. FoFF's barn cats are tested, spayed/neutered, and vaccinated. We’ll provide support in trapping and transportation for medical care. You provide food, water, and the shelter these cats need. If you do not live in southern Maine but want to help homeless, feral, and abandoned cats in your area, find the group in your vicinity dedicated to helping these most needy of cats, and offer your barn as a permanent shelter.
