Our Mission

There are always Pointers in need of homes. If you are interested in fostering or adopting a Pointer or in volunteering for us, please visit our website:http://www.americanpointer.org.

The American Pointer Rescue is an all volunteer, non-profit national organization dedicated to placing homeless Pointers into loving homes. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation funded exclusively through donations, adoption fees and fundraisers. All donations are tax deductible and go toward rescue expenses. Our officers and board members are never compensated in any form for their service. Our Mission is to:

Help homeless Pointers find caring and loving permanent homes.
Provide veterinary care for the Pointers we rescue including spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm, tickborn illness and parasite testing, treatment & preventatives, and any other medical care needed.
Encourage and support successful adoptions by providing education about the Pointer breed.

Adoption Policy

American Pointer Rescue takes in adoptable dogs from area shelters and fosters them in volunteer foster homes. By fostering dogs in our homes we are able to save lives and provide the public with healthy spayed and neutered dogs. The foster home provides a transition period between life in the animal shelter and the new, permanent home. The dogs are given the opportunity to learn any needed social skills and to receive the much needed love, shelter, and medical care they deserve. When a dog is rescued from the animal shelter s/he receives a health exam by a veterinarian, age-appropriate vaccinations, and a heartworm/tickborn illness test, preventatives and if needed, treatment. All dogs 6 months of age or older are spayed or neutered. Dogs under 6 months of age are adopted under the agreement that they will be spayed or neutered at the appropriate time. We keep each dog for a minimum of two weeks in order to assess personality, temperament, and training needs. By doing this we are able to ensure that we place each dog in the most suitable home. Individuals interested in adopting a Pointer must fill out an adoption application, be interviewed, and have a home visit in order to ensure that the needs of both the individual(s) and the dog are met. Our fees  for a Pointer are $395 for an adult or puppy and $295 for a senior or special need dog. These fees help cover a portion of the veterinary expenses to get our dogs ready for adoption.  Pointers with pedigree and those in our hunting companion program are priced individually.
