Adopting A Friend

Adoption Fees:
The good news is: you can generally find a pet here for far less than in most pet stores. The bad news is: it’s unfortunate that we cannot give away the animals free of charge!  In order to continue operating, we must recover some of the costs of care (such as medical examinations, food, utilities and other costs).
All of our dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, have rabies and distemper shots (age appropriate), and are dewormed. Additionally, each has a microchip that contains information that can help any shelter locate the pet's owner (as long as you register the chip) in the event the pet becomes lost.
All fees are used to cover operating costs, repairs and improvements necessary to provide the care required for lost, stray, or abandoned pets brought to the Humane Society of Charles County (we are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization).

Our Adoption Fees are as follows (subject to change):

  • Dogs (over 4 months old)…………………..$95.00

  • Puppies (up to 4 months of age)…………………..$125.00 + a $50 deposit for training (which is returned to you upon completion of puppy training class).
  • Cats (over 4 months old)........................$65.00
  • Kittens (up to 4 months of age)….................$95.00

We also have various small animals for adoption, please call for prices. 301-645-8181.

Mission Statement
The Humane Society of Charles County has the dual mission of promoting the humane treatment of animals and of fostering a respect for all life, both animal and human.

History

The Humane Society had only 25 members, less than $100, and a dream when we began in 1978.  We started out with dog houses behind the old Ice Plant on Route 5. Eventually we added dog runs to the back of the building.  In the early 1980’s, we moved to our current location on Industrial Park Drive in St. Charles.

Dog and Puppy training classes
