Who We AreWe are a group of animal loving friends that has joined together to fill a niche in the Tri-County area of Southern Maryland that is committed to giving "Second Hope" to hard to place animals (due to breed or age) that are searching for their forever homes. Collectively we have about 16 years of rescue experience, either with other rescues or by doing rescue on our own. We are in desperate need for foster homes! Please call if you are interested, fostering is a wonderful way to help the homeless animals! If you'd like to make a donation to help Second Hope when we have to board an animal or to help with our vetting costs or any of the hundred other needs of a rescue, please click the donate buttton:Adopting a friendUPDATED CLARIFICATION ON POLICY (April 8, 2008) Second Hope Rescue reserves the right to refuse an adoption to anyone based on any information we uncover during our adoption process. Any home that only uses an invisible electric fence will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may not be approved.
Second Hope Rescue willl NOT adopt an animal to a home that has any unaltered companion animals. Exceptions "may" be made if there is a medical reason for this or if the animal is currently competing in AKC sponsored competition where the animal would be disqualified for it.
All our animals are spayed or neutered before adoption. An application with references is required as well as a home visit. Please email us for an application. Adoption PoliciesAdoptions only within 80 mile radius of the foster home*, home visits and veterinary references are required. The entire family must meet the animal before the adoption can continue. Adoption fees are currently $200** for dogs/puppies, $100 for cats/kittens. Adoption fees must be paid at the time of adoption by cash, money order, or cashiers check made payable to Second Hope Rescue, Inc. If other arrangements for payment have not been agreed upon before the adoption, the adoption and the entire process will be cancelled if payment is not made. Boarding fees – We are sorry, but due to the number of animals in foster care we are not able to hold an animal for you. If the adoption has been approved but you cannot take possession of the animal at that time, there will be a $10/day boarding charge.
*Outside Area adoptions: If we consent to an adoption outside of the 80 mile radius (from our foster home), there is an additional non-refundable $50 donation (due to the continued climb of gas prices). **Occasionally some adoption fees are higher if the animal has come into the group with special needs. We will inform you if that applies to the animal you are interested in. Even when this presents itself, the adoption fee rarely covers the vetting charges. We apologize for these new stricter policies. Like every rescue out here we do this as volunteers, for the love of the animals. In most cases we have families, jobs and our own animals that still need our attention and love. Unfortunately due to some recent adoptions that took advantage of our love for this and our generosity, we feel like there is no choice but to institute new policies. Come Visit Us!We do not have a physical location to come visit all the animals in our care. Our animals are fostered in our homes, currently in Leonardtown and Huntingtown. To meet any of our animals please contact us and we will do our best to arrange a convenient meet and greet.
