Our Mission

MJ's Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit 501c3 rescue which exists to assist homeless, unwanted, abused, neglected pets (primarily dogs) in finding new, forever families.  We rescue dogs from undesirable situations all over the country, often saving dogs from euthanasia in rural shelters where space is limited.  All our pets are fully vetted, to include neuter, microchipping, all vaccines, deworming, and heartworm tests, and all known medical conditions are treated if possible, prior to adoption.  All pets are placed in loving foster homes to prepare them for life in a family, something many of our rescued animals have never known before.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation to help offset the tremendous costs of rescue and rehabilitation!  Donations can be made online via PayPal here:  https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=8D2YUUBZ82U4Q

Or via USPS to MJAS, PO Box 2084, Bowie, MD 20718.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Adoption Policy

We do not have a physical shelter building, so we do not have visiting hours.  All of our adoptable pets are placed in individual loving family homes until adopted.  This affords them the opportunity to be truly assessed, beginning training, behavioral challenges to be identified and addressed, and for them to become accustomed to living indoors with a human "pack." We do not allow meet and greets with the adoptable pet until AFTER your reference check is completed. This is for the safety of the foster family and the pet.

Adoption inquiries must be made by email ONLY.  Interested adopters please email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com to request an adoption application.  Your application will arrive via email with specific instructions for completing the application.

Once we receive your completed application back along with any other required documentation, we will begin a reference check of your personal and vet references.

After your reference check is completed, we will contact you to arrange a home visit and a meet and greet with the animal you are interested in adopting.

Following the meet and greet, in most situations, adopters are given an opportunity to think about the possible adoption, and the rescue volunteers collaborate to discuss whether the adopters are approved. We will notify you, typically within 72 hours of the meet and greet to let you know if you are approved.

Once approved, there is a legally binding adoption contract to complete, and an adoption fee to pay. Adoption fees do not cover all of our expenses we put into any single animal, but they do help us offset some of our costs. They are required for every adoption, and adoption fees are not waived for any reason.
